Typhoons at LFA 17

Post by F1inshot » Thu Feb 08, 2018 12:18 pm

Does anyone know if the Typhoons based at Coningsby ever do any low flying exercises over LFA 17? Thanks to Reptile 1 who provided me with a link to find good locations for photography, over the last 3 years I have visited the area many times and seen several aircraft, Hawk, Tornado, Hercules, Chinook, F15 Eagle, Tucano but never a Typhoon until this Monday. I saw two over Thirlmere but the tail markings were not any I recognise from Coningsby so I think they were from Lossiemouth.

Hi
I saw 2 Typhoons northbound low-level over Grasmere at 1105 (from a misted-up window on a bus - so no marking info !).
ADSBx has ZK337 & ZK369 'Sparta 1' southbound (out of Lossie ?) descending l-l near St Abbs then re-appearing over Whitehaven - climbing - at 1109. So not confirmed but 'probably' !

There were a couple of Hawks about 20 minutes ahead of them.

Hope this helps

They were both from 2 Squadron at RAF Lossiemouth.

Night stopped at Warton.

Thanks for the info everyone, I can confirm the information from JetsR4Kids is correct I can just make out the serial numbers in the photos and the time in the Metadata shows them over Thirlmere at 11.10. Still wondering if Coningsby Typhoons ever do low flying in that area, anyone know?
