All very interesting but what have the latest posts got to do with Spanish F-18's?

Initially, because Spanish F-18’s may have been early arrivals for Coningsby ACPV 2017. Doesn’t look like that was correct. Perhaps ACPV needs its own thread if anything of interest.

Maybe they were scheduled to partake in ACVP, but were recalled to Spain after the fatal crash within the same unit on the day they arrived?

They were towed out of a 3 Sqn HAS on the morning of departing, so I'd say they were merely guests of 3 Sqn. Thus nothing to do with ACPV.

As for being recalled due to the accident I would think they would have gone the same day had that actually happened.

Long flight from Spain to return the same day, especially since they would've had to do flight planning for the return which obviously wouldn't have been done beforehand and combine that with emotional stress. A nights rest would have lessened the burden. So very much feasible.

Not to mention that the unit probably went into a grounding period until they knew what was what.
