Coningsby closure

Post by starfighter » Sun Mar 26, 2017 4:23 pm

Seen on the Leeming page 10 jets deployed on Friday , because of runway repairs,
Is Coningsby closed or just restricted flying , have looked but can't see much.
Thanks as always.
Steve.

Limited flying certainly - the base will remain open for QRA (South) operations as well as for the TMF to continue to operate. XI(F) Squadron are at Op Shader at Akrotiri and 3(F) Squadron will shortly be deploying for NATO Southern Air Policing. The Tornado's of 41(R)TES are in the States - no word on whether the 41(R)TES Typhoons will continue operating from Coningsby that I've heard but as Gary put it so well recently, 41 does what 41 wants.

Hope this helps.

Steven.

I was thinking of heading up for half a day this Friday but it sounds like I won't see too much action.Maybe Lakenheath could be a better bet for some fast jet activity?

Probably not. RAF Lakenheath is NOTAM'd closed on Friday 31st March 2017 between the hours of 0700 and 1500.

There are still NOTAM's for the Typhoon display every day this week at Coningsby but presumably the aircraft will launch from Leeming - I'm not sure though.
