The Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter plane has been an enigma for those who have had the opportunity to fly the aeroplane at airshows throughout the United Kingdom and abroad. Pilots have marveled at the German engineering of this little fighter. Because of the advanced engineering in components and systems, twenty years ahead of the western world, this German fighter became one of the dominant images of World War two engineering excellence and the best-known fighter of this war on par with the iconic Spitfire. The use of this fighter by the German Luftwaffe as their mainstay during the epic Battle of Britain, made the Messerschmitt name a household word throughout the civilized world.
The adventures of Baron Munchausen is a 1988 British adventure fantasy comedy. The film is based on the tall tales that the 18th-century German nobleman Baron Münchhausen was alleged to have told about his wartime exploits against the Ottoman Empire.
For Flight Lieutenant Charlie Brown his life is no comedy, and serving as an officer in the Royal Air Force, the experience of flying old and modern aircraft is real and has been exhilarating.
After school, Charlie moved from his home in the New Forest to study agricultural economics at Wye College in Kent, and joined the University of London Air Squadron in his spare time while there. He then joined the RAF after finishing his degree in 1981. He is married to Kay and has three daughters.
Flt Lt Brown first flew the iconic Spitfire in 1991, and when flying this amazing aeroplane and entering and departing from the cockpit, his impressive moustache reminds people of a World War Two pilot from the Battle of Britain. Here he is on this video clip flying a Spitfire on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kY_stGJn6Bs This is a clip of a restored Messerschmitt Bf 109 in flight over Duxford airfield on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TlAh6uX2TI
Charlie has flown regularly the aircraft of the Historic Aircraft Collection based at Duxford at air displays. He has displayed many aircraft but is probably best known for his Spitfire and Me 109 displays. When not flying for the HAC, he is a flying instructor based at RAF Cranwell. He is a member of the Central Flying School Examining Wing at RAF Cranwell and Chief Flying Instructor at the RAF Cranwell Flying Club. He also trains Spitfire pilots for the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight whose aircraft fly from RAF Coningsby.
During Charlie's career he has flown the Tornado GR1, Jet Provost, Chipmunk, Bulldog, Tucano, Firefly and Tutor aircraft, and has flown altogether 13 different types of aircraft. For many years he has been a regular display pilot flying all over the United Kingdom, and in using his skills and experience, has thrilled the crowds attending.
On 15th June 2014, he celebrated his 1,000th flying hour in the legendary Spitfire aircraft - with a drink called Spitfire Ale!
