recent activity at Wattisham

Post by djh » Fri Feb 17, 2017 9:24 pm

I live a few miles north of Wattisham. We sometimes get Apaches flying overhead, presumably on their way to or from exercise areas in Norfolk. Recently there's been a lot of noise from our south, sounding like helicopters, but we haven't seen anything. Does anybody know if they are doing exercises at the base or somesuch - circuit and bumps or whatever?

PS This is my first post, so apologies if my question is in the wrong place.

Hi djh

I think there has been an ex or something on as there has been increased heli traffic with Apaches/Chinooks and Pumas about over the last week or so all over the area. Including some VERY low flying over here.

Hope that helps

Hi and Welcome aboard. Like Trevor and yourself I live a few miles outside Wattisham as well. Wattisham had a Chinook or two go through last week, and if they're working STANTA they tend to come back and forwards for fuel. Also in the quiet of night even Apaches on the field can be heard several miles away - they certainly can at Stowmarket.

Many thanks, chaps. I'm near Stowmarket too, so that's good confirmation.
