'Shiny Two' ZA398
Question for the locals...
Has anyone noted Shiny Two ZA398 in the last two weeks?
On the 18th I was told by a Lossie pilot on the she was WFU and not seen anything about her since week commencing 13th Jan.
If still out and about I will head up soon so appreciate any info!
Thanks

Took a bird strike at Manston a few weeks back?dont know wether the airframe has left there yet?Theres an image on the forum somewhere with a big hole just before the nose cone.
May the skies be clear and blue and the wind fair with a guiding star to steer by.
Re: 'Shiny Two' ZA398
Sat at Manston and will be going back to Marham on a Low Loader, they plan on fixing the Hole on the Nose caused by the Seagull but could be 4+ Months before she is back out that's if they do go ahead with the work
Re: 'Shiny Two' ZA398

Re: 'Shiny Two' ZA398
Thanks all for the info...that's bad news! Heard from several people on here that shes a high hour airframe so hoping they still do the work
Re: 'Shiny Two' ZA398
During the II (AC) Sqn centenary event back in May 2012, it was said by one of the blue suitors that ZA398 had been though depth for the last time, and any major work could spell the end of the jet. Let's hope by some miracle it has flown for the last time
I know some crews on other squadrons won't miss it they didn't have a good thing to say about it I believe they gave it the nick name Sh*ty Two

Re: 'Shiny Two' ZA398
All but confirmed ZA398 has flown it's last flight on the day it took yet another Bird Strike at Manston, the work is quite substantial so is destined for RTP, however the 'Shiny Two' Fin may be transferred to a Serviceable airframe in the near future.

Re: 'Shiny Two' ZA398
I saw she had been pulled out of the hangar today, maybe getting ready to be loaded up
Re: 'Shiny Two' ZA398
Just giving Manston some hangar space back, exactly what will happen next has yet to be confirmed.Bengo74 wrote:I saw she had been pulled out of the hangar today, maybe getting ready to be loaded up
Re: 'Shiny Two' ZA398
I wonder if they might strip her at Manston, then take the rest to the fire training school over the road?

Airframes at Manston aren't destroyed by full on burning anymore, like in the old days at RAF bases they might get a tad scorched but not reduced to melted piles.
Unless someone knows better?

Vulcanone,
Maybe thats down to improved response times
but your right in what you say, there was a rather sad looking Phantom over the back of the fire area the other week.
Sad to see the aircraft like it though.

Will be working 010 over the next few..........well for a while. If I accidentally get some pics will accidentally post, suffice to say sadly there will be no more shots airborne.

I now remember the place were I saw the photo of ZA398, landing after the bird strike, its on the Air Forces monthly Facebook page, keep scrolling down back to mid January.
At a glance the hole is bigger than fist size, just below the front screen of the canopy.
