I made the trek to Marham on thursday the 30th and was lucky enough to catch one taking off(he did a quite impressive short take off with the nozzle down and a rapid climb)there were 4 on the ramp but only that one flew so i think you just have to take pot luck and turn up although i visited on a thursday (5th of july) last time and saw two so are thursdays lucky days?-who knows.happy hunting.Mark.

Thanks for the link, though it's for subscribers only. Perhaps you'd be kind enough to post the bullet points. Report of a singleton above the cloud base earlier this afternoon from a neighbour. Perhaps Thursdays are a good day to plan a visit. I'm sure someone can confirm if there were indeed any movements today.

One F-35B on impressive low level simulated approach over my rooftop at
northern Kings Lynn about an hour ago. I guess the noise abatement
letter writers will start to get busy!

Are they noisier than a Harrier?

4 different F-35 flew on Thursday 6/9

I think one is up now ( Friday 7/9 , 10:50) as Marham 81

Twice a noisy as a GR.9 I would guess

When they finally put on fuel tanks, don't expect that too soon.

IIRC F-35's aren't plumbed for drop tanks(?)

Ah I see, don't really follow F35, my bad. Will they ever fly sorties away from the local area?

I thought one had been over to Valley back in July, same day as one did an overshoot at Yeovilton?

The F35B can carry 13326lb of internal fuel. The F35A carries 18500lb, and the F35C 19600lb. The F-16 carries 7000lb internally, or 12000lb with two wing tanks, or 14000lb with the centreline tank as well. The extra drag of carrying drop tanks is significant, so you'd rather have 13326lb internal than 14000lb total, half of which is in external tanks.

Adding 7000lb of external fuel to an aircraft capable of carrying 13300/18500/19600 internally will result in a minimal increase in range.

Marham 91 and 92 are up doing circuits with low approaches as I type. Listening to pilots and approach/talkdown clear as a bell. Nothing can be seen on 360 radar but I can see them around the house as its in the circuit boundary. From memory pilot of 91 was flying 88 on Thursday of last week.
I know when they are up without switching anything on........ lots lots louder than the Tornado's

Pilots are usually assigned a personal Marham ## callsign.

Is that the ref numbers I am quoting , ie 91 & 92 which Tower/Talkdown/Pilots are using all the time on the radio G?

I may be misunderstanding but the pilot doing circuits on Thursday was , I am sure, doing them today but with different callsign number.

I'm relatively new to the hobby so go easy please!

Marham 32 (Tornado) is the one they use for currency check on the Tornado from what I can make out.
I.E it can be anyone with an assessor in one of the seats.
You might find one or two of the current F35 callsign are just currency callsign numbers as let’s be honest all they are doing at the moment is keeping current for what I can make out.?Pure Guess mind.

Oh no BC I now way thought that. It’s me that’s learning! If ground crew and pilots are using these “individual” type call signs how do we know which planes are up, even though I’m only a couple of miles away? . Any help would be appreciated
