First visit

Post by herc15 » Fri Aug 10, 2018 2:28 pm

Hoping to come up on friday the 24th. Never been so any tips on viewing or advice on times etc, any info appreciated. From what i can see on google maps there is a stopping place on chalk lane that is close to 24 approach lights, that's the most obvious spotting place, although it looks quite distant. is going to be a 4 hour journey so what is the likelihood of anything going on?

In my humble opinion there will not be a lot going on as it is the day before the last Bank Holiday before Christmas! I hope I am wrong for your sake if you go.

Marham don't fly on Friday usually. Unless it's an exercise, flypast, weather catchup or deployment etc
Posh are going to Wembley (albeit for a tin cup)

Aside from the lack of Friday flying, Runway 24/06 is currently closed!

ah ok maybe go elsewhere then...

My "friend" has just admitted he was joking when he said it would be a good time to go... oh well should have been less gullible. is it a similar situation at the other bases nearby?

If you have a four hour journey to Marham then it's a similar drive from Calais/Dunkirk to Spang via Brussels for the F-22.

Seriously though Marham is fairly quiet even when it's busy but there are several decent viewing positions for the runway that is in use (01/19). There seems to be just two or three tornados in the morning and the same in the afternoon.

During July the F-35B were quite active but I haven't heard of one flying during the day in August?

Also since the shorter runway is active there doesn't seem to be any visitors or overshoots apart from the occasional helicopter

i think i will wait until the runway is open and maybe just pop into the heath just in the off chance of seeing something. would much prefer to see the F22 but am going up to see relatives and was hoping to spice up the weekend with something interesting.

We are staying over in Norfolk, Sunday 26th August for a week, never been to Marham, we were thinking of popping over mid week, so from the sounds of it, it will be a little quiet?? Any more heads up on the week ahead?
I know it is not the exact part of the forum, but we are going to pop to LN and M the Hall, first time to the Hall.
It's great as she that must be obeyed is so excited, a trip to LN blew hers socks off earlier this year
