Wattisham looked like a scrap yard at one point

Some of the 'old girls' (e.g ZD849) are only a year or so older than the F-15C at Lakenheath

Very true, however the F15 hasn’t been carrying heavy fuel tanks around on swept wings, the fatigue stress this causes is one of the main reasons it is going out of service.
I also would bet that the F15 doesn’t have nearly 8000 flying hours on its frame

ZD849 will have been retired earlier this week along with 038. They were only kept active to bolster the number of jets for the RAF 100 fly past. Now that is complete they are no longer required.

Had a GR4 2 shipper through the valley today, at 1501 and 1503. The second one was "045", but the first one didn't have a tail code, and I didn't get an angle to get the reg. Can anyone ID it for me?

Thanks.

ZA543 ‘036’ is the only tornado with no tail number on the fin, it will have been that one.

Thanks Integrale 1. I had that airframe down as scrapped on my list. I had a cross check with here and UKAR, and their info appears to be wrong regarding matching Reg's to codes.

She’s definitively alive and well, I spent the weekend with 036 at RIAT.

At least they do it discreetly these days.... Remember the lines of retired and spares recovered Vulcans, Lightnings Phantoms and others awaiting their fate!!
That's true, though with most of those types (albeit not generally Phantom) members of the public were able to pitch up at scrap yards and leave with a cockpit or two. Not so with Tonka sadly, despite the cockpit shells being of no use to the RTP programme.

ZA607/EB-X is currently in maintenance so isn’t destined for the scrap heap just yet

ZA543 didn't have a code on tail at RIAT well not on the left side anyway. Has it recently been marked up?
