Did you know that registration to Fighter Control is completely free and brings you lots of added features? Find out more....

If the track at the 24 end is 'civil' land and not MOD property then the MOD Police can't chase you away, or at least that's my understanding. That said however, please respect the farmers field, entrance etc as people have previously mentioned on this thread.

Re: Marham viewing
In essence you are correct - the MOD Police do not have legal powers off of MOD property but the fact that there are now MOD perimeter patrols off-camp implies there is a new level of concern for whatever reason. I suggest it would be unwise to argue with these guys - they have a job to do and all they need do is call up the local police for assistance which would inevitably end in tears and make things worse for those who try to maintain a compliant cooperation. Having watched and photographed activity at military airfields for over 40 years I hate these new restrictions as much as anybody but I'm afraid it's something we may now have to accept.

Re: Marham viewing
It has all changed recently,i too have been visiting airfields for many years,[starting with cycling from king's lynn to marham to see victors and canberras when i was a littl'un] and apart from a few "gap years" from spotting when family life took over i have indulged in our strange little hobby ever since.personally i have always thought the americans were a lot more heavy handed and have heard many stories about film being removed from cameras etc,i have had very little trouble at RAF bases although i do remember an officer coming out of the control tower at Holbeach ranges and asking me not to take pictures[of a jaguar doing straffing runs, work that one out!] i do hope the MOD police don't go the same way as all in all we're a pretty harmless bunch aren't we?.happy spotting all.Mark.

Pretty sure if you're on public land (or private land with permission), then it doesn't matfer how close to the fence you are as long as you're the right side of it! MOD Plod like to get excited but as long as you follow the rules you should be fine. Cameras might cause a further issue though.

The grass verges have been cut in white road under the 01 approach - looks like parking has been massively improved

That's decent to sort out some parking - not that the facebook generation will like the idea of a donation!

Don't like the assertion by the EDP journalist that Britain would be "punching above its weight". GB down the years has involved itself in various causes, usually in alliance with other NATO partners and I hope will continue to stand-up for what we see as right.

From the Gov website relating to MOD Police powers, if requested to assist local Police off site, then treat as normal Police
The Ministry of Defence Police (MDP) derives its powers to operate as a policing organisation from the Ministry of Defence Police Act 1987, as amended by the Anti-Terrorist Crime and Security Act 2001.
Within the jurisdiction defined by the MOD Police Act 1987, MDP officers have the full powers and privileges of constables, identical to other civil police officers in the UK. The jurisdiction of MDP officers covers:
land and Property anywhere in the UK owned by, under the control of, used by, or providing services to(a) the Secretary of State for Defence (b) the ordnance companies (c) the dockyards (d) Visiting Forces (e) Crown property (f) within UK territorial waters and (g) any land where their provision has been agreed by the Secretary of State
individuals (a) employed by the Defence Council or Ministry of Defence, (b) subject to control by the Defence Council, and (c) Visiting Forces
when providing mutual aid to any police force
when witnessing any suspected criminal act or to save life and minimise personal injury
MDP jurisdiction was extended by the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001 in some significant respects.
MDP officers may now exercise police powers where a local police force requests the assistance of MDP officers. This is most likely to be in support of defence related tasks; major civil emergencies; or the provision of specialist policing capabilities, such as marine policing. Where such assistance is provided, Ministry of Defence Police officers will be under the operational control of the local Chief Constable from the requesting force, and will have the same police powers as officers of that force.

I am looking to visit in August but will be driving down. Is there anywhere safe and legal to park the car?
Cheers

Thanks Mark,
Ive managed to convince the other half to see the Tonkas before they are retired. It's taken me a couple of years of nagging.

You only have to see what they did to Warton to worry about this possibility. Used to be a great place to rock up and take photogrpahs

Re: Marham viewing
Is the info in the Thunder & Lightnings guide still accurate? I've never been to Marham before to spot from the fence but wouldn't mind catching a few Tornados before heading over to Lakenheath on my next visit.
Which runway is in use at the moment? DId I read that the main runway is out of action?
Point F still good for taxying shots? Small fence here?
Sorry for so many questions - never been to the place for any length of time before and certainly never taken photos outside the base so any pointers welcome.
