ZA456 IX(B) Centenary tail

Post by ridgmeister » Wed Aug 10, 2016 7:46 am

I think I saw the fin of this airframe outside the large hangars yesterday (black fin featuring green/yellow flash and gold '1914-2014').
Can anyone confirm this or was it a combination of eye-sight and heat-haze

Yes I saw the tail only from the 24 threshold last week when the Belgiums visited.

Thanks Slogen51, wondered if it was Goldstar but a cropped, poor shot showed it was green/yellow. I wonder how many other special tails will live on?

Hi

Does that one not fly anymore? I am a bit out of touch with RAF Tornados (tornadoes)

Wish it was ZA267 outside.

Both the IX(B) and 12(B) tails are back at Marham, not sure if they are going to the HAS complex or the station heritage room. Both have been mentioned at various times.

Sadly didn't make in into the heritage room at Marham families day, hoping for a trip soon. It's a great place if anyone hasn't been
Posh are going to Wembley (albeit for a tin cup)

THe IX(B) tail has been back at Marham for months just in storage, we moved it recently to the paint shop as it is going to get touched up and made like new. The plan at the moment from wht we have been told is each of the Sqns will get their tails to be placed outside their Sqn buildings. The 12 sqn tail is currently on the HAS site, and 31 is still attached to a jet. What i was told as well is the 12 sqn fin is not the fin that was on the centary jet but rather they got one of the dambuster special tails and painted over the top of that, if that is true im not 100%

this tail has been offered to the RAF Marham Hertage Musuim (old church near main gate) they have the choice of either that or the RAF Marham 100 Years tail.

the 617 Sqn tail is to be located on the entrence to the New F35 HAS site entry.
