]I guess the Bird in Hand must be a pub often used by aviation enthusiasts who may be on the lookout for alternative accommodation.....
There is an excellent pub with plenty of accommodation at Great Cressingham. The pub is called The Windmill.
It's about 20 minutes drive, but is a marvellous pub. the food is superb and the beer top notch.

Might agree on the good food & beer at the windmill gt cressingham, but 20 mins to RAF Mildenhall is a bit misleading more like 45-50 mins, 20 mins to RAF Marham is about right.

The Riverside hotel in Mildenhall is quite nice - especially the beer garden in the summer.

From the top floor rooms you can easily see Mildenhall approach and also Lakenheath final approach in the distance

According to Google Maps, RAF Lakenheath viewing area to The Windmill at Gt Cressingham, is 23 minutes driving and 14 miles.

and then another 20 mins to Mildenhall... so 43 minutes is close to what was sugested by Davem245.

Agree with slogen51 the Riverside is nice to stay at... very nice breakfast as well.

Riverside is great but Packed out with weddings in the summer, many of which have exclusive use of the hotel and all rooms, mostly weekends but sometimes on weekdays too. so check in advance.
