Hercules Retirement

Post by chazzer » Tue Oct 15, 2013 6:45 am

Anyone have any information reguarding the retirement of the older C130 K`s .
Just wondered if they were going to do a farewell tour as did the VC10`s or maybee HOPEFULLY revisit Lyneham for one last time so the locals can come and pay their respects for a aircraft that served Lyneham for many years.

A 47 Sqn C-130k is at the Night Shoot at Northolt tomorrow for its last public event, with props turning apparently. :D

I guess local flying for thursday means flying towards and over lyneham.
We have had 1 or2 aircraft constantly over lyneham all day since around 10.30am.
Tail door down and at various heights 7 or 8 times during the day great to see them and listen to that lovely engine sound.
Will be sad to see them go the newer j model is not the same as the old k models.

Flights today were available for a last flight experience over the local area, usual thing, ramp down photo oportunity. Last flights may be a bit more tactical shall we say.

I heard today the two that arrived at Saints have been sold to Columbia.

The last 2 are due into Marshalls at Cambridge and have also been sold

Beautiful low fly by the Tower at Colerne today at 11:30. Suppose I will have to get use to the 'J's' now.

Nice !, there was a C130 due through Halfpenny Green last Friday, was hoping it would be a C130K but nothing materialised probably due to the bad wx on Friday morning, guess that was our last chance of seeing a C130k here gone.

So there I am walking the boy across the Oxfordshire fields when he cocks his head (the spaniel that is) and looks back over my shoulder. The gentle noise builds before the 2 frames come into view over the trees. Nose to tail, foot down 500 feet maybe absolutely superb, closely followed in their wake by a J slightly lower.Into the falling sunshine before a break to land.

Gentleman I hope you had a good day & gave a lot of people a last chance to see the K in its RAF service. Crying shame to see them go, plenty of dust around next Tuesday I am sure!

If anyone caught them on their rounds today please post them up, even if I had my camera today I would just have looked skywards and appreciated them doing their thing for one last time.

My two efforts at photographing Reynard Formation fly by at Colerne are on the FC Facebook, too busy taking in the sight and sound. Sad to see them go.
