Harrier GR3 XZ994

Post by YellowBelly » Wed Mar 02, 2016 11:42 pm

Has now departed BZZ, as far as I understand it. It has initially gone to Bicester where the trailer is supposedly going to be put into use, the Harrier itself should be off to Ipswich area soon after.

am afraid thats all I know

here's a pic for old times sake

It definitely left during the first half of February and I was told that it was going to Wittering as part of the Harrier museum. I understand that it left Brize on MOD vehicles and not contractor vehicles which would definitely favour it going to an MOD location. I would be interested to learn where it has actually gone.

hi XA310, yes it was supposed to go to Wittering as far as i know, but basically two separate parties, at the same time, decided to get rid, the WIT move was agreed but it was actually hijacked by someone else with neither party knowing about the other.

I will dig a bit more and see if I can get a definitive answer.

i hope it does end up at WIT, at least it should be put to some good use.

Hi all,

XZ994 noted 17:45 today (Sunday 15th May) heading North on the A1 near Peterborough, just South of the A605 jcn . The A/c was split over two vehicles, the first had the complete wing and the second had the fuselage, with XZ994 easily readable even though I was on the southbound carriageway at the time.

So WIT would seem likely, and Ipswich / Bentwaters less so?

Cheers

Alan

I have seen a photograph of a line up of material including a Grob and what would appear to be the Harrier on an artic at Wittering with 100 laid out in front.

No mention of if it would be staying maybe they are setting up a display for a commemoration of the airfield.
