Unbelievable, I'd seen a couple of Hawks buzzing around before so nearly never bothered looking out of my window when I heard the sound of jet engines just then. Imagine my surprise when I looked out to see a Hornet on finals.. I went out and had a nosey at him, 162904 coded '404' and carrying VFA87 markings. The two Hawks had also landed and were XX178 and XX314. Great start to the weekend. :D :D

Hi
One of them, proberbly AJ-404 has just left at 23:10. The second in-bound was AJ-107 VF-31. too dark to read off any serials

I went out for the second one too but due to the terrible light, like you I only managed to read off AJ, 107 and VFA 31. '404' left first with '107' departing just a couple of minutes back. Both made a racket and set car alarms off all over the camp as they went. It's a shame I never managed to get a serial for the second one but they made a nice change and I needed the one I did get so I can't moan.

Cheers :)

EDIT

A third Hornet is now on the deck, this one has a fancy painted tail with a red Indian and the words 'War party rocks' aswell as the AJ and it's code which this time is 400. It carries High Visibilty VFA 87 markings and national insignia. Again due to extremely lo light, I've failed to get a serial, sorry guys :@ Hopefully they'll be known.

Second one was a SuperHornet.

3rd one is due out lunchtime today, it had the same fuel transfer problem as the other one. Will put some pics up shortly.
pilot of the third one said "yeovilton is our Primary Divert, but they are not 24hr, so i expect you'll see a few more of us over the next week"

I eyeballed an F-18 over Melksham yesterday at 1950ish but I thought na I have got to be wrong but obviously not. I also guess this is what woke me up between 2300-2400.

They are operating all week, so I sure you will see a few more during the next few days.
