Re: Summer Deployments
Question then.....why would 52's refuel this side of the Atlantic if they were inbound to Fairford? Usual procedure, assuming they require AAR, would be to refuel off the American coast

Good point. Is an ALTRV always for refuelling?
Cheers

As for a B-52 deploying from the US to Fairford air refuelling on this side of the Atlantic its never happened before, so it seems unlikely.

Re: Summer Deployments
Announced that 3 are due today.....no Notam yet for the MATZ being open. Only requirement for arrivals is for the AD and RWY to be open for scheduled arrivals.Gary wrote:The MATZ hasn't been NOTAMED active yet, that is usually up before any of the bombers arrive.

Re: Summer Deployments
B-52 due to carry out a flypast at RAF Valley just before 3pm.
Re: Summer Deployments
I guess at least one will be departing the US about now if its a 7 hour flight time and one is expected at Valley 3pm.

Re: Summer Deployments
Minot (KMIB) are currently open under NOTAM, 0400z-0800z which is 2300L-0300L. They should either be up, or about to get up.

Re: Summer Deployments
I've got Gander Centre on LiveATC - is there anywhere likely on LiveATC to pick them up prior to Gander?

Cut and paste direct from the Global Strike Command Facebook page:
"Air Force Global Strike Command
Three B-52 #Stratofortresses are scheduled to deploy June 2 from Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, to RAF Fairford, United Kingdom, to participate in U.S. European Command (EUCOM)’s Exercises Baltic Operations (#BALTOPS) 16 and #SaberStrike 16, and U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM)’s Just Hammer.
This deployment marks the third year in a row that strategic bombers have deployed to RAF Fairford and trained with U.S. and allied military forces.
“Integrating strategic bombers with multi-national operations in a variety of scenarios enhances the readiness and capability of U.S. and #NATO military forces, which is vital to global security,” said Adm. Cecil D. Haney, United States Strategic Command commander. “Ensuring we can operate from strategic forward locations like RAF Fairford is integral to our collective defense capabilities and a more timely and coordinated response during crises.”
United States Strategic Command routinely deploys bombers to both the U.S. European Command (EUCOM) and U.S. Pacific Command areas of responsibility to train and integrate with our allies and partners, while also demonstrating the ability to maintain command and control of the bomber force anywhere in the world. The most recent deployment of B-52s to Europe was in March in support of Exercises Cold Response and Serpentex.
One of nine DoD unified combatant commands, USSTRATCOM has global strategic missions, assigned through the Unified Command Plan, which include strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting."

Re: Summer Deployments
I would'nt, not until a confirmed departure of 3 from Minot anyway.

Re: Summer Deployments
It's safe to say that they're coming, USAF Global Strike Command don't tend to get things wrong!Martin Jennings wrote:I would'nt, not until a confirmed departure of 3 from Minot anyway.
