Post by tafelo » Fri Jul 29, 2016 7:55 pm

Hi, I'm looking for the patches of the 81stTFW detachments in Germany (Sembach, Ahlhorn and Leipheim). Maybe someone can help

Apologies for digging up an old thread, but I just stumbled across it searching for something else.

The DET patches do pop up on ebay from time to time, although the Ahlhorn one seems to be the rarest of the four and they can fetch steep prices! Beware of the ebay seller 'Abqmetal' who has produced some rather undesirable fakes of these patches in recent months.

This web site has some of them available, but be prepared to dig deep as they are asking for the top price, although these ones are from a genuine seller who deals in 100% real original patches...

A real det 3 alhorn patch is backed with Velcro with its merrowed edge incorporating the Velcro into it. Not many patches have this and $39 is steep for a none Velcroed version, and you'll pay a bit more for a Velcroed version. There are lots of variations of the det patches, different size colours and subdued versions too.
You'll enjoy finding them and how the dets actually worked, theres some fantastic history about them.
Regards,
Tony

There were also two other Detachment airfields earmarked for the 81st TFW in Germany... These were Jever & Wiesbaden, although these never actually saw any use by the 81st TFW in the end.

Totally agree with Tank Buster on the above - top quality patches and great service - purchased quite a few from the seller

All the best
