I don't think any air show can live up to what they had in the past as the assets and funding are just not there any more! At least we don't have the same level of cancellations that the USA have! :(
I know that's true but Leuchars have always had the reputation for doing something special and being different from the other major shows and I would still say Leuchars At Home Day is a major European Show. In the past Leuchars have had to turn away European aircraft and now we are trying to avoid Sanicole. It's a crying shame what's happened over the last few years and now we are struggling to attract the Belgians and the Dutch, staple, first on the Hymn Sheet attendees.

I just pray and hope there is that special item hidden up the sleeves! Good luck to all at the Airshow Team in the remaining 4 weeks!

Hi Michael,

I would try checking St Andrews Hotels and Guest House Association in google. It will have most of the B and Bs available. The problem at this time of year is that the Open Day falls slap bang in the middle of the Autumn Meeting of the R and A so there tends to be limited vacancies unless you are quick off the mark! Best of luck and let's hope for a brilliant weekend!

Mikey
Hi Mikey we have secured some accommodation 3 miles from Leuchars thank you for your response I really do appreciate it
I think the airshow will be ok I am interested in seeing the tiff's too then onwards and upwards to Lossiemouth,,

Just a quick question...

It would seem that (having listened to various people) Waddington cannot currently accept a Voyager, due to weight issues apparently. It being bigger and heavier than either a VC10, Tristar and an E-3.

Is the runway at Leuchars cleared for accepting a Voyager?

Just a thought.

I might head up for the show but given that I'm currently a government artist....! I might be struggling to find digs close by, although Mothers sister does live in Blairgowrie, and some of my cousins are near that.

Tim, Leuchars have had visits by Antonov 124s recently so a Voyager shouldn't be any problem whatsoever.

Never thought the Voyager would be heavier than an L1011!

But A330's have been in previously, including the RAF's all Grey G-VYGG :thumb:

I thought the Voyager had already visited Leuchars! When 1(F)Sqn came back from their overseas jaunt on 28th April this year?

I would have thought that if the Army are keeping Leuchars Runway open then the most logical thing to do would be for Transport Aircraft such as Voyager and A.400 to operate from it while on Trooping Flights with the Dragoons.

A bit off topic? Pretty sure stuff like that is and has been discussed elsewhere on the forum?

Sorry, all I was doing was pointing out my view on the chances of a Voyager and/or other Transport Aircraft apprearing at the Airshow. I didn't mean to vear the subject off topic.

I wouldn't worry unknown, I can't see how your reply is any more off topic than the others preceding it were!

Unknown 74,

Its not the Army that are keeping the airfield open it's Governent policy, primarily as a diversion for Lossiemouth, it should also continue to house the UAS and AEF and I dare say by default, theLeuchars Flying Club. It will remain in the hands of the R.A.F. however, I'm sure the use of the airfield for planned and emergency troop deployments won't have been lost on anyone, least of all the Army. Now! How's that for thread drift!
