Air displays for this event are the Black Cats (Fri & Sat only), HM Coastguard demo, Black Knights Parachute Display Team, RN Historic Flight (Seahawk only) and RM Dynamic Display (practise on Thursday 29th Aug) which should include use of helo's.
Static aircraft include the Sea King (minus rotors and tail section) on RFA Argus, a Merlin on the jetty next to HMS Dauntless and possibly some ship's flight Lynxes. As all but one of the ships are already in port, I'm not hopeful of many of these being on display but they could possibly go out early next week for a day or so and pick up a Lynx! The last to arrive is HMS Cumberland, which is due on Friday 30th August at 0930.
There are no foreign ships taking part now. RN ships are RFA Argus, HMS's Daring (not open to the public on the Friday), Dauntless, Richmond, Westminster, Cumberland, Cattistock and Tyne.
The Merlin will be landing on the jetty on Tuesday 27th July at 1245. With a decent lens, a good place to get it will be by HMS Victory.
Timings for the air displays can be found on http://www.qhmportsmouth.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and clicking on the 'local notices' link. More information on the event itself can be found on http://www.navydaysuk.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
If you are going to the event, make sure you are on a ship where you can look to the west for the air displays, RFA Argus and HMS Dauntless being the biggest ships and in a central location. If not, the Round Tower at the harbour entrance in Old Portsmouth will give a decent but distant view of the displays although the aircraft should pass through the harbour entrance at some point. It will be extremely busy on the tower, I should think!!
As ever, timings and participants are subject to change for whatever reason!!!
