Clacton airshow HIGH COURT GRANTS INJUNCTION TO STOP OVERNIG

For anyone thinking of visiting Clacton airshow – Tendring Council demonstrates its motorhome-friendly credentials yet again.... Note where the link takes you - says everything about what they think of motorhomes...
HIGH COURT GRANTS INJUNCTION TO STOP OVERNIGHT CAMPING ON CAR PARKS, SEAFRONT ROADS AND OPEN SPACES
A High Court injunction has been granted to prevent overnight camping on certain car parks, seafront roads and open spaces over the Clacton Airshow period.
Tendring District Council (TDC), which organises the annual event now in its 26th year, successfully applied for the order at the High Court of Justice in London on Thursday.
It will run from 00.01 hours on August 18 through to 23.59 hours on August 30 and covers specified areas in Clacton. It applies to any campervan, mobile home, caravan or tent.
Anyone who fails to obey the order can be held in contempt of court and could be sent to prison, fined or have their assets seized.
The injunction was made in favour of TDC and Essex County Council.
Last year the Councils failed to get an injunction agreed by the High Court but this time reduced the area covered and the length of time the order is to run for.
Mick Skeels, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, said that he was pleased that the injunction has been granted.
“It is unfortunate that there is a need to go to such lengths but the aim is to prevent disruption to the premier event on the District’s calendar,” he said.
“We have had issues in the past and there was an incident last year. We cannot run the risk of finding ourselves in a similar situation and need to have the necessary measures in place.”
Cllr Skeels said that the Council welcomes everyone to the Airshow and will be hoping for crowds in line with the 250,000 over the two days last year.
The Airshow will take place on August 24 and 25.
Paul Honeywood, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Housing, added: “The Council will do all it can to move unauthorised encampments on as quickly as possible and this injunction is a great help.”
The application to the High Court was backed by Tendring’s Divisional Commander Chief Insp Russ Cole who also attended the hearing in London.
“We were pleased to be able to support the effort to seek an injunction as we are also keen to see this major event run as smoothly as is possible,” he said.
The open land covered involves land on the south side of Marine Parade West – Clacton Pier to Collingwood Road - as well as the Martello Bay area.
In terms of the seafront roads they are Hastings Avenue (West Road to Selsey Avenue); Marine Parade West and West Road (between the junction with Marine Parade West/Wash Lane and Hastings Avenue).
The car park land covers Hastings Avenue Car Park, Hastings Bay Car Park and Martello Coach and Car Park.

This is reasonable. The motorhomes arrive at seaside airshows park up in normal parking bays and stay there for the whole time. This means other visitors have real trouble parking when they turn up for the day. It really restricts who you can take as the elderly and parents with young children have to park well away from the action. Clacton has many areas where motorhome owners could park up and then take their chance on parking the same as everyone else on the day. If travellers were to park in areas mentioned in the injunction all hell would break out.
