Nostalgia will be high on the agenda when one of the most iconic planes of the Second World War does a fly-past at a bank holiday weekend event.

Re: Cold War Jets, 28th May 2017
A good day out, thank you team Bruntingthorpe.
A couple of bits of gossip from the day:
Genuine confusion from some of the aircraft owners and operators I spoke to as to whether or not August's event will take place - it's inevitable that the airfield will continue to fill up with stored cars, including the runway soon, and already some are nervous about how close the cars are to the runway.
The Comet didn't taxy due to nosewheel streering issues
The Nimrod didn't taxy at high speed due to a hydraulics issue, not because it lost some of its vertical stabiliser/rudder in strong winds
The ex-RAF Tristars are apparently still owned by the MoD and are being kept in a usable reserve state - does anyone know any more about this?

Re: Cold War Jets, 28th May 2017
The public commentator did indeed say the August was happening, and I suspect he always will say that until the moment it officially gets cancelled. Speaking to some of the more hands-on staff though gave a different story.
Re: Cold War Jets, 28th May 2017
I also heard the commentator dispelling rumours that went round (by the way the commentator was amazing, loads of knowledge!!) that there would be no display but staff from two different groups said I should make the most of the day because Augusts display was looking like it wasn't going to happen. It is a shame if it doesn't it was my first fast taxi day and was a great day out. Thank you to everyone there.
Re: Cold War Jets, 28th May 2017
You could be right in your suspicions, but he's also the owner of at least two airframes there afaik, so he has a vested interestpage_verify wrote:The public commentator did indeed say the August was happening, and I suspect he always will say that until the moment it officially gets cancelled.

Still searching for the master shot.
Re: Cold War Jets, 28th May 2017
100% cancelled as of today, some of the groups will be running smaller events instead.
It's simply due to the level of activity from the onsite businesses.
For instance we at the Buccaneer Aviation Group are in the latter stages of planning for an event in September to be announced soon.
