RNAS Culdrose Air Day 2016

Post by Bobbster » Fri Oct 23, 2015 12:18 pm

Date announced for Culdrose Air Day 2016

Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose is pleased to announce the date for ‘Air Day’ 2016 - Thursday 28th July.

The annual event, which has become a firm favourite on the Cornish event calendar, enables the general public to experience the sights, sounds and smells ‘onboard’ one of the Royal Navy’s helicopter bases, whilst seeing breathtaking flying displays in the sky. It is the only day of the year when the public can ‘experience the world of Culdrose’ and see what happens behind the security gates.

The Commanding Officer of Culdrose, Captain Adrian Orchard OBE said: “We had a fabulous Air Day this year and we are already looking forward to the 2016 event. It is really important that once a year we open up our gates to show off our amazing aircraft, our highly training personnel and tell visitors from across Cornwall and beyond, why RNAS Culdrose is so vital to the Royal Navy.”

“Our Air Day is a bit different from the other air shows across the United Kingdom. It is one of the few events run by a military establishment, and we put a lot of effort into giving non-military personnel the opportunity to come into our world. At the 2016 event, I am keen that not only will our visitors witness fantastic flying displays, but they get a chance to meet those serving on operations across the World and learn about our outstanding aircraft and training facilities. We will work hard to make it another day to remember.”

Now that the date has been set, the Air Day team will start to book aircraft for the flying display and military acts for the arena. A list of aircraft participating in the event will be announced next year and tickets for the event will be on sale in the New Year. More information about the event will be available soon at www.culdroseairday.com

First time for me any tips on the best place to park, and what time to get there,
think of getting there for 7/730.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Steve.

4 ship Belgium F-16 flypast now announced to open the show!

Very unusual for any airshow (outside of Belgium), let alone a small-ish helo base on the tip of Cornwall! They must be en-route to somewhere else surely - Malaga Spain perhaps?

Weather front appears to be passing over the field at the moment, rain expected to clear in time for the start of the flying programme.

Well this is miserable, 200m vis which has gotten worse over the last hour. Belgians all cancelled, but don't worry we've got the Breitling Wing Walkers on first instead at 1...

Left around 10 to 1. Few bits n pieces in static I'd not seen before so not a total loss.
MISSING - x1 Air Force.
If found please return to the UK.

Don't expect a big one, probably the worst show I've ever been to,
for a station with approximately 40/50 active and 20 more on the
dummy deck,to have in total 10 in the static and one more in a hangar,
was pretty dyer, there was so much spare tarmac quite unreal, and to
top it the barriers where once again far to close.
Those that moan about Fairford should have been here,
they would've had a field day.
Glad I was on holiday and don't make a special journey.
Steve.

Pretty gutted tbh, never in my life have I been to an airshow where things were so bad that nothing could even take off. I was really looking forward to the Belgian Sea King and seeing it up close. It seems everywhere else in the area had lovely weather today too, just to rub it in
