We are extremely pleased and proud to announce that on Saturday 19th September we are able to make an amazing addition to our flying programme.

The last EVER flypast with the Vulcan and the Red Arrows!!

As this is the last display season for the Vulcan, there will never be another chance to see this unique and incredible formation.

This is the last EVER flypast with the Vulcan and the Red Arrows and it is happening here, at the Southport Air Show!

Tickets printed off.

Three sets of batteries charged for the scanner.

Only the car to clean and that is me ready for the Saturday!

Related to this. The tin triangle will fly over the Runcorn/Widnes bridges at 13:40 as a salute to Roy Chadwick (who was born in Farnworth) then meet up with the sparrows as they come back from Kleine Brogel. Reds continue into Warton and triangle pootles about over the beach at Southport.

Sadly rumours suggest the Flypast over Widnes Bridge is cancelled (See NWAN).

If you do want maximum number of people to see it, would seem obvious to route South of Man TMA and toward HAW before then turning North up the Mersey !

Announced on VttS website late yesterday afternoon that it was cancelled due to the likelyhood people would actually want to watch it.

South of Ringway and towards Hawarden would be good for people over towards the Wirral (though it should be meeting up with the sparrows off the North Gog coast so possibly good views for the plastic scousers anyway?). Routing down the Mersey would be better for numbers and given that the M62 and M6 usually seem like car parks when I travel down there that could work well!

Apparently it was one the best displays to date.

I was fortunate in that I attended RIAT on the Saturday and also was at Southport Saturday.

The formation fly past with the RAFAT was much closer than performed at RIAT and the trailing Hawks were almost inline with the rear of the Vulcan. At Fairford they were in a vee preceding the Vulcan.

With regards to the display: Kev Rumens flew the wings off it! Have a search on youtube then have a say!

The rest of the day, well the usual really..... Four hours to do a two hour journey then four hours home (just what I needed after less than three hours sleep as I'd been at a wedding the day before). What was unusual was the crowds! I've never seen as many at Southport, it was like Fairford in its' heyday! I haven't found any link to numbers yet but I would guess at 70k+.

We were very lucky with the weather as I had driven up in fog that did not lift until I had got past Stoke, then it was overcast until Midday, then the 'current bun' came out in time for the air show.

Funnily enough, I think that this was the only show I have been at that 'The Reds' managed to do their full routine at whereas they have done the flat and rolling shows throughout the rest of the year.

Chinook to start, Typhoon to finish! All in all a great day out.
