Any idea what this helo was please?

Post by Aircraftpaulcornwall » Tue Aug 06, 2013 9:38 pm

Hi all,
I heard a helo outside and decided to have a dekko! I thought at first that it may have been a Merlin but, although it was a similar engine noise it sounded different,
a heavier noise, almost like an American 'cargo' type. It was spotted at 2215BST-2220BST (2115-2120Z) going across here (S/N) at about an estimated 1000ft, it then turned onto a westerly heading, disappeared, then a few minutes later came back, flying W/E towards Penryn, then NE & disappeared over the horizon.
It had a red light flashing twice per second, fore and aft, and the usual red & green, port & starboard lights.

At 2230BST (2130Z) another one came up from the SW & flew NE wards over the horizon and disappeared. This may have been a Merlin?
I have a feeling that both are probably out of CU!!

Many thanks for your help --Paul :thumb:

I was thinking much the same thing! Doesnt seem to be much of a decrease in flying, the only difference I can note from Cury is there is no longer a distant roar of a Hawk on take off

Merlinhole & Kylegreetkernow,

Hi Mates! - I could not agree more on this one - at least yesterday (Wednesday), - we had a few Sea Kings and an odd Merlin flying around here during the daytime, -
but however, after about 1600Z - absolutely nothing and zilch !!
Then, today and tonight, (Thursday - normally night flying from CU), absolutely nothing either! Oh dear!! --Paul :@

There was some flying during the day on Thursday. I saw Avengers airborne am & pm, a Merlin pm & a 771 Sea King pm.

Hi Red Hound,
Many thanks for that - it just goes to show how localised some of this helo flying can be, with some peeps being aware of them & some not!! --Paul :thumb:
