Eurocopter AS365

Post by EGDR » Wed Jul 03, 2013 3:32 pm

Spotted at CU around 16:00. Does anyone know why it was down here and if anyone knows its serial.
Also noted today at around the same time Merlin HC3 taking off from near MDMF and flew very fast and turned sharply, didn't return.

ZJ164 was your AS365. (Or more correctly SA365N)One of a pair based at NQY, ZJ165 being the other.
They quite often visit, and operate with the Flight Deck Training Unit, situated on 'A' site (Dummy Deck).
The Flight Deck Training Unit includes a mobile gantry that represents the front of a small ship's hangar, used for the training of officers and ratings in the operation of helicopters from small ship's flight-decks.
Your Merlin HC.3 was ZJ118/B.

Thanks for the info, never knew we had two up at NQY. It was doing quite a few touch and goes around the Dummy Deck so now I know why it was doing that  . The HC3 was a pretty impressive sight, I think he was showing off to the tour that just got back
