Predannack

It's often mentioned that Predannack gets used as the relief landing ground for Culdrose, but on a typical week, how much action does the airfield actually see?

I was down there just after Easter and didn't spot anything operating from the airfield, not sure whether activity has declined in recent months.

It can vary a lot. Some days you'll get next to nothing out there, while other days you'll get almost constant use. It's also used extensively for night flying as there is less light pollution there than at Culdrose, so less problems with NVGs, and it means Culdrose doesn't have to continually operate with lights out. The fire training area also gets regular use by both Culdrose's own fire crews as well as some civilian crews.

Hi,

is any of the stored aircraft/helicopters visible from outside the base or a higher viewing point?
Are the RAF gliders still there and are those only flying in weekends?

I will be in the area May 7-11th for holiday.
Any info is welcome.

You're able to get a fairly restricted view of the aircraft from the Kynance Cove car park, certainly not good for photography that's for sure.

So from Kynance Cove car park you can see some old aircraft, but that seems a rather great distance!
Can nothing been seen from the Windmill Farm on the east side, should be more close, or are bushes in front??

Only just picked up this post as I do not get on FC much these days.
For the best view of Predannack (without trespassing) follow these directions. Head to Mullion village and pass through heading towards Mullion Cove (B3296). You will pass the school, cricket club and a shop on your left. Where the road turns left and drops down is a turn to the left signed Predannack. Follow the road downhill and up again before it veers right. Keep straight on for around 800 yards and at the junction continue straight on to a track through a field. At the bottom is a National Trust car park. Park here and head down the obvious path through the farm buildings and keep straight on. Ignore the turn to the right for the coast path and a turn to the left shortly after and keep going straight on. Go through a gateway and over a stile/ hedge following the hedgeline which will be on your left. After going over another gap in the hedge follow the path straight on towards the airfield. Through another gate and turn slightly right. You are now on the bridleway around the edge of the airfield. Keep going along this and you will eventually get reasonable views of the aircraft at this end of the airfield. AVOID THE TEMPTATION TO ENTER THE AIRFIELD - YOU WILL BE TRESPASSING!!

At one point a track leads off the airfield over the bridleway towards Kynance Farm. If you follow this road for a few 100 yards you can look back at the airfield from albeit a distance but get a different view of the derelict aircraft. Identification is difficult but not impossible with binoculars or a spotting scope.
