Opportunity to visit Predannack Airfield

Post by Bobbster » Wed Feb 08, 2017 10:07 am

There is next week an opportunity to visit Predannack airfield a satellite of RNAS Culdrose please see below for details:

Predannack Visit
On Wednesday 15th February we will be offering a rare opportunity to visit Predannack Airfield. Predannack opened in 1941 as an RAF base, but today is the satellite airfield to RNAS Culdrose - it is a restricted MOD site and an active airfield used daily for flying training and also provides our Fire Fighting training facility.

We are offering 50 places on this visit which will provide a coach tour of the airfield and it's Dispersal's, a supervised walk through the Ground Training Airframes and the chance to view a fire fighting demonstration. There may also be a stop outside the ATC Tower to coincide with the airfield opening and the first aircraft arriving. (These items may subject to change on the day due to serviceability and environmental conditions).
For further information and to book a place, please email;
navycu-execprpra@mod.uk or navycu-execprcro@mod.uk or telephone 01326 552450.

The fee for the tour is £25.00 and is payable in advance by cheque. Please make your cheques payable to: HMG 1090
To ensure you don’t miss out send your full name(s), address and contact number, along with your payment, to the following address. Upon receipt we will post out your ticket(s).

Itinerary:
The tour will begin at 11:15 so please allow plenty of time to arrive and park. Access to the airfield will be from the Main Gate off the A3083 by the Cider Barn and entry will be permitted from 10:45. Our staff will be there on the day to assist you with parking and any questions you may have.
The itinerary for the session will be as follows:
• Park and board coach
• Tour of Airfield and old dispersals
• Stop at the remains of the Barnes Wallis Ramp and disembark the coach for photographs
• A supervised walk via a set route through the Ground Training Airframes
• A stop at the ATC Tower compound to (hopefully) see some aircraft arrive as the airfield opens for the day’s flying training
• Visit the Burning Ground to see a live fire fighting demonstration
• The visit will conclude at approximately 14:20
Please note that the Fire Fighting demonstration and any flying activity will be subject to weather, serviceability and training commitments on the day, which are beyond our control. Every effort will be made to follow the programme. Unfortunately we cannot accept children under the age of 16.

There will be no refreshments provided on the day, but do feel free to bring your own.

Really excellent visit to Predannack today. Dr Barnes Wallis concrete ramp, Merlin HM2 flyby,
“ grave yard” – Canberra, Dominee, Sea King, Wessex x 2, Jetstream, Harrier GR3, Harrier FAW2 Jaguar – visit to the control tower and a dramatic fire fighting demonstration. Clear blue skies, mild and well looked after by the Royal Navy.
