PARTICIPATION UPDATE:
Hunter PR11 (Private) - Static
AAC Islander AL1 - Static
RAF Tucano T1 - Static

WORLD'S OLDEST AIRWORTHY HUNTER
Taking part in this year's static display is Hunter PR11 WT723 - the world's oldest airworthy example and the only photo-reconnaissance version still flying. Last seen here in 2011 when part of Team Viper, WT723 has recently been painted in the authentic colours of 764 Naval Air Squadron circa 1968. It's début public appearance in new colours is a welcome addition to Air Day's historic naval line-up.

PARTICIPATION UPDATE:
German Navy P-3C Orion - Static

For the first time the German Navy is sending one of its eight Lockheed P-3C Orion aircraft to Air Day. The Orion made its first flight in 1962 but remains a key element of NATO's maritime patrol capability. Germany's examples have been in service since 2006 and regularly carry out patrol flights over the North Sea. Set to be the largest naval type in this year's static display, the aircraft is part of Marinefliegergeschwader 3 (MFG 3), based at Nordholz.

Static is looking Really Good this Year.

Is there any place you can recommend for (parking and) watching Friday's arrivals?

The only place you'll get away with parking is the arrivals option on base. The closures around base are very strict, so short of parking in Ilchester and walking to 09 or Pyle Lane, theres not much else!

Take a bike and park in the museum car park IF its open to public parking on the Friday that is. I am in the caravan park opposite the museum, on the sports ground, and its a 10 minutes bike ride to the sheep fields. The security on the road closures always let us through on our bikes but are very strict on cars.
Scanning daily. 3500xlt with antenna 90ft up a silo.

Unfortunately the Seafire won't be able to attend due to recent engine problems. However, we are pleased to announce that the Skyraider, which was booked in for static will now take part in the flying display as its replacement.

Never done arrivals day so a couple of questions.
1: If i want to come by train how easy is it to get there.
2: Do they open Cobham Hall on arrivals day
3: How much is it to get in

From London, your choices are Paddington to Castle Cary, or Waterloo to Yeovil Junction. Either option is around 8 miles from the railway station to the airfield - too far to walk unless you're Mo Farrah. You can usually get busses from Yeovil Junction into Yeovil Bus station, and then Yeovil Bus Station out to Yeovilton. But they aren't very reliable or regular. I woudn't want to try and walk from Yeovil junction into Yeovil - It's only about a mile, but its a narrow hilly twisty road with no pavement with lots of potential for getting run over. Taxi is probably your best bet, but it won't be cheap.

I've no idea of the options from Castle Cary - I'm not brave enough to venture into bandit country north of the A303 :D

Agree with you Malcolm about the area north of the A303, real bandit country with strange people, I stay safely south of the border in Ilch :D
However back to the question, as Malcolm said best bet would be train to Yeovil Junction, always met by a bus, so bus into Yeovil bus station, bus to Ilchester and then walk the last bit to the airfield.
As for Cobham Hall, no it will not be open on arrivals day, used to be for a few years but then not many people visited so it was not worth the effort.

The sheep in the field at 27 end have been trained to eat people who wander where thy should'nt, this will include most people who reside north of the A303, if you take a bike watch your tyres, you have been warned!

That's the bit they want you to know! More importantly especially selected animals have been trained to pee nerve agent which (among other minor side-effects) causes even border-line free-loaders the incredible urge to buy an Admission ticket to the Showground. :ninja: Me...I just think the miserable gits are trying to cause a wave of depression amongst punters by using Local Authority legal powers to force more saps into the show :grr:

Thse particular animals have been imported from a certain island north of the A303, so you have been warned!
Those of you who do not know what I am talking about should consult their history books
