The only reason they're sending so much to Yeovilton is because it's a Navy show! However, Cosford is an RAF show!

Us old fogies can remember the days when 24+ Wessex 5's were in the Junglie assault, and we bemoaned the day when the SK4's arrived and numbers dropped to 18 or so, even if sometimes bolstered by a Chinook or two.

And Mick would arrange for the R27 helicopter flight-line to be walked down in the evening of the spotters day.

Those were the days Malcolm, sadly never to return, us oldies were lucky compared to today's generation, the late Vic Sirett(CRO) briefing the assembled multitude in the FAAM car park before opening the gate to the photo call, another thing that Mick suggested to Vic and he ran with it.

The 21st July is the memorial event for Capt Eric 'Winkle' Brown, approx 1,000 invited guests for the event being held at South Dispersal, a flypast of types flown by Winkle will take place, rehearsal on the 20th

I can remember the Wessex 5s along the flight line, and the walk along too.

Seem to remember being taken across to South Dispersal by minibus to photograph the display aircrat located over there as well.

But being classed as an old fogie??? Only 46 years old here

There will be some on static and I have no idea as to what will be flying yet, no doubt as the date gets closer more will be known, but as the post earlier says there will be a lot of restrictions around the outside of the airfield.

There are notices up in Ilchester this week that the main road through the town (the old A303) Is going to be closed for 3 days from 29th June. They've been dicking about with the drains/water mains for the past 2 weeks, so I suspect it's related. Anyhow, that's Wed 29th, Thr 30th and Fri 1st. If you're planning to go to Yeovilton on any of the arrivals days, it looks like you're going to have to avoid going through Ilchester. Locals will know how to do this via the Podimore roundabout :ninja:

I hope they get the work finished on/by 1st, coz if it overruns traffic control for Airday on the 2nd is going to be 'interesting' :P

Just to add that the road will be closed from 0930 to 1600 each day to avoid the peak times of travel in the morning and late afternoon

Flying display doesn't really impress to be fair with a lack of fast jets. Still going to give it a go though. Lancaster cancelled today
