Flying Legends 14 -15th July 2018

Post by Gary » Tue Jan 09, 2018 10:48 am

GET READY TO RUMBLE!
See The Flying Bulls at Flying Legends 2018 with their debut UK five ship display.
The North American B-25J "Mitchell", Lockheed P-38 "Lightning", Chance Vought F4U-4 "Corsair" and two Dassault-Dornier Alpha Jets.
That should look damn cool, shame about the RIAT clash again

Posh are going to Wembley (albeit for a tin cup)

Airshow tickets are now on sale. There appears to be a grandstand as well (£15 on top of the ticket price) but couldn't see where it was.

WARNING - The IWM have a new web site so beware.

Well that's just made me rethink the Fairford plan.

....the aircraft will be able to take part in.....
It say's 'will be able' not 'it actually is' to take part in. I'd wait until it's confirmed before making any plans.

I think you can take P.51'Miss Velma' off the list. A friend saw it at' Fighter Rebuilders' at Chino Airshow recently, and said that it is still in many pieces, and in his opinion is unlikely to be put back together in time. Hope He's wrong. :(

Now, what would YOU do in the following "circumstances"?

I've been to the last few Legends, and - not being that "impressed" (unfortunately!) - decided not to go to the 2018 event. But, TODAY, I received an envelope (presumably from the FL organisers!) with a ticket and Parking Permit for FL 2018 (neither of which I had actually purchased AFAIK).

So, do I take the "freebee" and use the ticket and parking permit (but that means I also need to buy a ticket for SWMBO  ), or just "fess up" and tell the organisers?????

JEAALLEN. Firstly. I completely understand your dilemma. What you MUST understand though is that Flying Legends is a private Airshow, NOT run by Duxford, or the IWM,.It is run by Stephen Grey's Fighter Collection, which enables him to wheel and deal in wonderful WW11 Fighters for the benefit of ALL enthusiasts. If you [and others!] deny him this income, then, obviously long-term, the standards of his collection will fall. It is, of course, up to you, and, in fact, the same thing happened to me years ago when I had a car problem on entry, and was pushed away, into the car park without paying. I realised how lucky I was to get away with it, but my conscience got the better of me, and I went back and paid. I would respectfully suggest that, if you attend, you do the same, though, of course, it's up to you. Regards, John. [How can you not be impressed by Flying Legends, the second best warbird show in the world???] :S :S :S

John
Probably because it is a shadow of it's former self. Warbird attendance is well down on shows from as little as 5-10 years ago. The balbo at the end really isn't one any more either. However, and I am aware of how negative that sounded, I still love it but I really do understand why some would find it disappointing. I am not going this year but I fully intend to go back, smaller show or not!
Cheers
Mark

Big Surprise after I finally informed IWM/TFC about the tickets (there actually 2) - I got a phone to tell me that it seems I won them in a "Flypast" mag draw, but Flypast never told me that.

Now the dilema is still - do I/we go, or don't I/we? Given the very hot weather now and forecast - and the fact that we are already suffering badly from the heat - then the answer has to be No.

In the phone call, I was told that I can do what I like with these tickets, and so, does anyone want to make me a "reasonable offer" (by Paypal Gift for preference) for the 2 tickets (there are no names on them) and the Parking Permit? - be quick and I can post them tomorrow!
