Spitfires, Merlins and Motors ~ 26th July 2014

Post by Pen Pusher » Tue Jul 15, 2014 8:01 pm

Spitfires, Merlins and Motors celebrates the legendary Supermarine Spitfire, the unmistakable Merlin engine and the golden age of motoring.

Get up close to Old Flying Machine Company’s Supermarine Spitfire IX and Historic Aircraft Collection’s Hawker Hurricane.

You’ll also meet the RAF Regiment Historic Flight living history group, presenting the history of the RAF Regiment and its predecessors. They will also be portraying the members of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force who worked in close proximity to the RAF gunners, as armourers, flight nurses and aircraft mechanics.

Staff from the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford will be dressed as 1940s civilians and celebrating the achievements made by women in aviation.

From 2pm, a series of Merlin-engined aircraft will take to the skies for short displays. These include Spitfire Ltd’s Spitfire XVIII, The Fighter Collection’s Spitfire XIV, The Grace Spitfire IXT, the Hispano Buchon (Messerschmitt Bf109) from Aircraft Restoration Company/ Historic Flying Ltd and North American P-51D Mustang Ferocious Frankie from the Old Flying Machine Company.

We celebrate the golden age of motoring with a display of vintage Rolls-Royce cars alongside hundreds of stunning vehicles, from pre-war vintage to contemporary classics.
