Traffic issues

Post by Pune » Sat Jul 14, 2018 5:33 pm

Hi Folks,
Hope you are having a great time at Riat, sadly we can only make Flyaway day on Monday but we are a tad concerned about the traffic issues being reported, how are things going?
Cheers

Maybe not of much use but i went to the show yesterday and was stunned by the utter lack of traffic problem going in OR going out. It just flowed smoothly (compared to last time years ago where i spent 90mins+ in 2mph crawls getting in and out).

I came in via Brown (M4) and parked in Green (Field opposite threshold 09) if it matters.

I’ve done Monday departures day, travelling down from the Midlands, most years since 2009. Never had a problem with traffic, other than usual random Monday morning problems on the strategic road network. Regards, Mark

There's only enthusiasts on Monday so there's no real volume of traffic to be had

Ditto on Friday at RIAT 2017 - straight in (via the M4 & A419/A429?) and straight out again after the show - only downside was that the flying was not as extensive as on Sat/Sun. Was that the same this year?
PS: Having read some of the reviews of the flying (not really interested in the static displays, etc.) this year (and wasn't impressed!), if I ever go again then it will be on a Friday.

I went Saturday, via M5 and A417 Air Balloon roundabout way and routed through Poulton into Green car park. No problems to report.

Hi, just for a matter of interest what time was this ? also ironically I usually do the Friday show days because its quiet, but it makes no difference because the journey back to the midlands is horrendous on a Friday afternoon so I might do Saturday next year instead.

Shuttle bus route on Friday was horrendous! 1.5 hours to get in (and I walked the last 1.5 miles), 1h 40 mins to get back to Swindon (at 17:00).

Not done it by car, but I might next year unless they sort out the shuttle bus routes.

P&V days, I've never had a problem - always drive. I did Thursday and Monday P&V last year (Saturday by shuttle bus - not a problem last year), did Wednesday this year - no traffic problems at all, and I'm going again tomorrow.

I took the same route as John yesterday, via Poulton, and having left the A419 at 0610 (I bought a drink from the Coop at 0612!) I was parked up at 0628, when I made a phonecall.

Left again at 1530 though I went via Down Ampney for reasons I'm not overly sure! Still no traffic, straight home.

Hi Johno, I Didn't get up as early as EGVP did so I arrived in the car park about 9.30 and left about 7.20pm. I expected to be held up with the 'masses'. However was pleasantly surprised. Maybe I just got lucky. I thought it was very well managed.

Hope you have a good day.

Cheers
