Best route in> north east.

Post by reaper493 » Fri Jul 07, 2017 11:49 am

It’s been a while since I’ve been to RIAT as a paying customer, coming from Lincoln, what’s the best route in from the north east on show days?

Aiming to leave Lincoln at 4am so should hit Fairford 6:45-7:00

RIAT recommends:
Coventry> M40>A40>A361 to the base

Google Maps Recommends:
Coventry> A429>through great/Little Barrington to the base….. (20 miles shorter, but single carriageway)

Does anyone have any advice?

thanks in advance.

Mike

I'd stick to the main roads (M40, A40). At least there's service stations etc on those routes just in case.

SatNav sent me back up the A429 to Coventry last year after departures day, end up stuck behind tractors, trucks and caravans etc

Leaving that time I'd be A46 to M1 then onto M69 down to A46 and then A429 Fosse Way down to Stow then any number of routes - either down to Cirencester way or A424 Burford & red route and light route alternative in Lechlade.

There are other rat runs but they are very narrow and susceptible to the mentioned farm vehicles and tractors!

For those planning a route, avoid A43 Towcester to Brackley as it is F1 weekend at Silverstone. A43 will be effectively closed to through traffic. Check closure days and times.

Agree with the traffic in the morning, the old fosse way is a good easy route.

That's the route I use but Lechlade will be very busy around that time with the traffic busy from Burford.

Hi reaper493

For me...I agree with davem on the best route to take...this is the route I always use, once on the A429 I then come off at the A424 for Burford and once in Burford it is just a short distance to Brize Norton for a quick look in there before onward to Lechlade and then on to Fairford.

I'm in Doncaster and normally leave the house at 3am and pull up at Fairford at 06.15am without any problems.

It's then straight out of the car and in to the que at a close point to the entrance and chill out chatting to other show goers.

This route and times work very well for me and I have never had a problems going this way...also the same getting off after the show, from getting in the car to driving off base, as never been more that 20 to 30mins, sometimes even quicker.

Hope this helps you out...have a great day at the show which ever route you take.

Best rgds
