Thunderbirds incident
Re: Thunderbirds incident
Shame this has happened so close to RIAT.
Pat Suisse had an accident prior to RIAT last year and still attended so it's not always doom and gloom.
Hoping this is nothing too serious and is seen as a freak accident due to weather and we still get the Thunderbirds but the decision will come from higher up the command chain which could be bad news if they decide not to go with an overseas risk.
Let's not make to many hasty assumptions just yet and await official confirmation from DBH or Thunderbirds team directly.
Personally I'll be gutted as never seen the T-birds and was looking forward to them but as mentioned it's still going to be a fantastic show.

Re: Thunderbirds incident
I for one am glad the crew are ok. As for any display speculation, I can remember the possible showing of the F35 two years ago when it had engine issues. That one went right up to the wire before it was announced that the aircraft would not travel to the UK. we will just have to wait and see. As others have already stated, this years show is already a bumper RIAT and I am looking forward to both the Static and the Flying at this years show. Fingers crossed, that's all we can do.

Re: Thunderbirds incident
When you read the associated RIAT AIC the Thunderbirds originally had extra airspace reserved between FL081 and FL150, they have just deleted the higher block

Re: Thunderbirds incident
if I remember correct they requested 10 miles of clear airspace around Waddington when they were last over here.

Thanks for that info luke28.
Separately, I just wondered what the commander may get paid. Found this:

Whilst off topic, is that say wing commander RAF? Squadron leader? Pay comparison to RAF?

There's someone in hospital, and all you're currently worried about is what he might get paid? Seriously?martmpf wrote:Thanks for that info luke28.
