Thursday is the busiest day, Wednesday tends to have large gaps between movements and then a gaggle before returning to the former!

Validation flights are planned for after 5pm on Thursday, that's the reason FRIAT members have been told the grandstand will be closing at 5pm. Not sure how many they need to validate, wasn't it mentioned at the FRIAT forum they wanted to pre validate where possible

Could someone explain to me why there is the need for the people from the FRIAT enclosure to be moved when there are validation flights? The planes aren't going to be flying over where they are, so I don't really get it.

How do you (or more importantly the organisers) know that unless they have seen the display and validated it as being safe?

Grogresaurus. If you were looking directly up the tail pipes of an Hungarian Air Force SU27Flanker as it tailslid towards you a few years ago whilst in that enclosure, you would certainly 'get it'. :)

I imagine it would!.. even the Mig 29 doing a tailslide gave me brain-fade.
I'm mortified I missed the Hungarian SU-27 due to noise-induced googly-eyes!!

Ah yes I understand now, thanks for the responses. Although I'm sure none of them will fly over the stand, right...? :P

I recall a Typhoon a few years ago that came out of a dive very close to the runway on a non public day which brought the 'practice' display to a sudden end. While not flying towards the FRIAT stand it was in front of him and to his left. :O

Pretty sure the Hungarians have never owned an Su-27 & they're migs are long gone, that typhoon display I will never forget! If it was anything other than an advanced fighter it'd have been game over, I believe the aircraft saved him rather than the pilot save the aircraft!

I remember the Typhoon incident. Looking across from the West Park and View I saw it disappear behind the hospitality tents. For a second I was fearing the worst. But with a roar of the engines it reappeared. I then phoned A friend who was in the hospitality tents and he said they where running for the lives.

I witnessed the Typhoon incident from Rhymes p+v.Practically took place 200yds in front of me.Another near incident was the F16 rehearsal at RIAT 2012 on Fri 6th.That was just before the b2 arrived in the rain and gloom. The f16 came out of a loop through low cloud, and had to use afterburner to power out to stop it hitting the Rd by Rhymes Farm.My wife took some video, and it on you tube.Look for RIAT 2012.F16 rehearsal. Fri 6th July.

The noise change when the F-16 was struggling to regain air speed can clearly be heard before pulling up, followed with a cheeky barrel roll to try and cover it up after.

Utter drivel. The F-16 had just taken off into its opening barrel roll and tried to keep below the clag around at the time, which it comfortably did. It was just it was below the minimum height levels in force by the FCC, so they red carded him and asked him to land. Nothing more.
