The contingent, from 404 Hikotai at Komaki Airport, uses the KC-767J for passenger and cargo transport, as well as supporting the air force's frontline fighters with refuelling via the boom method (suitable for aircraft types such as the F-15 and F-16).

The aircraft will join the already announced USAFE KC-135R, RAF Voyager and RAAF KC-30 tankers in the static display, as well as the US Marine Corps MC-130J that will be taking part in a refuelling demonstration in Friday's flying display.

AIR RIAT Drone (UAV) Warning to Operators

The Royal International Air Tattoo 2016 is warning that anyone flying drones or small unmanned aircraft systems may face prosecution if they operate them in the greater area around RAF Fairford. The call has been prompted by safety concerns following a spate of recent incidents at airports and other airfields around the UK.

Article 161 of the Air Navigation Order grants the Air Tattoo Restricted Airspace between Wednesday, July 5th and Monday July 11th to allow safe conduct of the event and contravention of that would constitute a criminal act.

Air Tattoo Chief Executive Andy Armstrong said he was making the appeal to highlight to the owners of drones or small unmanned aircraft systems the potential serious consequences of operating them within restricted airspace. He said: "The use of these small flying machines to capture aerial video footage is becoming increasingly popular. I wish to remind people that rules and regulations exist surrounding their operation and that, in the case of the Air Tattoo, none are permitted to be airborne at or around the airshow.

"My priority is to ensure we stage a safe event, for participants and public alike, and I advise anyone who sees 'drone' activity within the Air Tattoo airspace to report it to the Police."

CAMPING 2016 (last updated June 14th 2016

RIAT appear to have their own campsite. Not being a camper and only going for the Saturday, this is what they are charging,is it a fair price:
Four camping options within easy walking distance of the Red Customer Entry Point:
Self Pitch - bring you own tent (minimum 2 nights) - £15pppn plus a £10 pitch fee
Motor-home/caravan (no electric hook-up) - £30 per night plus a £10 pitch fee
Pre-pitched tent (let someone else set it up!) - £175 for two nights for up to 4 people

From their web page: they "will be open from 9am till 7pm from Wednesday through to Sunday."
Note however, there's a minimum booking of 2 nights at: "Pitch Price £10 plus £30 per night. "; so just Saturday night would cost you £70

Boutique camping - Bell tents with proper beds! Quads, triple or double sizes from £475 for 2 nights

Official Air Tattoo Campsite Provided by Bluebell Tents - NEW for 2016!
The Air Tattoo Official Campsite, provided by Bluebell Tents, is located off base, on the opposite side of the road to the Red Customer Entry Point and is open from Wednesday 6 July to Sunday 10 July inclusive. Toilets, showers, food concessions and a bar will be on site.

There are 4 camping options:
Self Pitch - bring your own tent (minimum 2 nights)

Boutique Camping - Bell tents with beds (glamping!) etc.
Find out more and book HERE.

FAT CAMPING: Fat camping didn't run last year, were opposite the main gate, to the south of 27 approach. Keep a look out, they might come back!!
FLYBY CAMPING: is just to the north of the 27 approach, about 10 minutes walk to the gates. Web Site (http://www.arkells.com/flybycamping/
FURZEY HILL: website claims to have the "best view" are genuine. No current information other than the following, website wrong or is it £50 per night to camp? and then £15 to stay for the day?
KEMPSFORD: It has been quoted on FC that Kempsford is full as of a few days ago. Web Site: http://www.airshowcamping.co.uk/
RYHMES FARM: Ryhmes Farm and its turn up on the day... but they don't allow camper-vans!! The guy said he had a run in with the council about it. Further to this Rhymes have said in June 2016 that their is a possibility the field being closed after the new regulations after shore ham last year etc.He also mentioned that there was talk about this fence or "screen" as he put it. Nothing at the moment though!
TOTTERDOWN: Totterdown is booked
TOWNSEND FARM: Townsend farm they allow campervans £15 a day about 5 mins walk to RW 27? Web Site: http://www.totterdownhillcampsite.co.uk/

I see on other forums that people still keep saying that land owners can do whatever they want on their private land next to an airfield as it's beyond the control of air show organisers. That maybe true, for now, but they overlook that air show organisers have a significant influence over the desire for people to want to be on that land in the first place, including the people making those comments.

Screens around a fence will be an annoyance to those who want to take photos through it, but nothing compared to the risk of air show organisers putting the 24/7 sound of large generators and HGVs reversing next to a camp site. Or fun fairs next to them during the day. Or changing the air and ground operations so aircraft rarely need to go near the crowded spots. Or traffic controls making it difficult to get in and out. Etc. etc.

It'll be interesting this year to see what the balance of compromise and stubbornness turns out to be, but I suspect organisers and land owners are already working together, otherwise there'll be many tears before bedtime.

Blocking the view of people watching outside the airfield is one of the measures airshow organisers have to take on in the new CAA safety rules, in order to get a display permit!

Is that in CAP403 ? Considering the popularity of 'live' side viewing is usually due to the proximity of the airborne participants I can't see how an organiser could block the view of the sky. Sure, you can attempt to obscure the view of an airfield but it isn't going to deter anybody.

Furzey Hill is expensive compared to Totterdown and Rhymes. It's a lot further away from the airfield if you are planning on viewing the show on any days. From what I have been told, the aircraft only turn over there on their way back to crowd center. On the plus side though it's a more family orientated camp site with no late night rowdyness and large groups getting plastered into the early hours. There is more chance of this at Rhymes and I wouldn't be surprised if they do put up a large fence or screen in front of the park and view. Totterdown do however have late cancellations so you could try there and just turn up but this is pot luck of course.

Flyby has had it's problems in the past,a couple of years back neighbours who didn't approve of them operating as a campsite were throwing fireworks at the tents. Also playing loud music into the early hours to deliberately keep people awake.I don't know if they had any problems in 2015 ?

Have a look in the Rhymes closing down thread a few below this one, all the reasons are in there!

You could probably pay a local farmer to rent out some land.

Note however, there's a minimum booking of 2 nights at: "Pitch Price £10 plus £30 per night. "; so just Saturday night would cost you £70

Boutique camping - Bell tents with proper beds! Quads, triple or double sizes from £475 for 2 nights
As a caravanner, I would say that the Motor-home/caravan price is totally OTT - especially as there is no electric hook-up. But, they have got a "desperate" market, so they will be able to get away with it.

Just as a comparison, I looked at the prices for Sandy Balls (nr. Fordingbridge in Hampshire) for the same Friday and Saturday nights. Their price would be £90 for a fully serviced pitch (electric, water and drainage) - plus, of course, access to a vast amount of on-site amenities (restaurants, swimming pool, club house, entertainment, boutiques, etc). Remember, though, that Sandy Balls is one of the most expensive in the country.

I thank you for your update and information.

Sandy Balls (is near Bournemouth, rather than Fairford) and is a long way from Fairford. For someone who is interest in buying and "RV", I must say I am concerned the high price of some sites charge, anyway will hire one this year (to visit UK and oversea airshows and airfields) to see the problems myself, before buying one.

Yes, Robin, but I only used Sandy Balls as a price comparison purely because it is so expensive. Its location relative to Fairford never came into the equation.

This is just my personal opinion, but the list of aircraft attending etc is already in the RIAT website, and since they're the source of the invitees, is it worth duplicating what they have already done and already update? Would save you time!

The frequency list is useful though the most useful thing for me would be the display schedule for the day I'm attending since I generally refuse to pay the extortionate price for a programme with tens of pages of advertising and two pages of display schedule. Shame RIAT don't produce a simple display schedule for £1, or even include it free since the tickets are very expensive already.

My thoughts as well regarding the participant listing

I think the list of attendees is a good idea for historical purposes

Although RIAT give you a list of who has been invited and or confirmed attending, that's really all you get. The list here on Fighter Control is going to include serials, operator, if it is displaying, and other notes

I think that might be good for anyone requiring that in the future. I personally used Google regarding the 2009 show and was lead to some discussion here.

So, kind of a pain... yes

Appreciated years later.... most definitely

Cheers!
John

Any heads up as to when the FF F-22s are planned to arrive.

Were they coming with the F-35A to Fairford or perhaps going to Lakenheath first?

cheers
Mike

The joint flypast featuring the F-35B's, and two RAF Typhoons and the Red Arrows display team dates and times are now listed in RAF Fairford Airshow movements section, to allow you to plan ahead to be in the best position for your photographs. :halo:
