First RIAT...

Post by James Cutting » Mon Feb 08, 2016 1:43 pm

Hi all,

This year is looking to be me and my Dad's first RIAT, and we are looking at camping (works out cheaper) here: http://www.fairfordairshowcamping.co.uk/ Has anyone stayed here and if so, what do you think? What else should we bring?

As for the airshow itself, we're looking at going up and making camp the Friday, watch the show Sat & Sun, then breaking camp Monday. Just really looking for some tips and guidance for the airshow, so we're prepared well in advance. :halo:

All comments appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

James :)

If you're around the Monday then staying for the departures is an option, as you get to see pretty much everything depart, if so I would probably say a FRIAT pass would be worth purchasing

I would suggest arriving at Fairford for about 6 to avoid any traffic, a bit later and the roads may have already descended into chaos! If you wanted to stay for departures a FRIAT MACH2 pass would be a good option! Hope you enjoy your first show! :)

Thanks both for your responses!!

I think that just a Sat & Sun airshow ticket will be better for us, a bit more affordable! Plus, with that campsite, you're directly under where the aircraft arrive/depart/practice

This will be my third year at RIAT but I've booked two nights at the above camp site, no idea what it's going to be like but like others have said arrive early to the show! I'm going on my motorbike this year so only taking essentials, should be fun!

Looking to possibly go to this campsite or Flyby as too late to get into kempsford where i have usually been.
I am arriving on thursday to attend the friday show then i have to leave on the saturday to get back for a night shift at work (could only get friday off so thats the only day i can make but looks like i will get the F35 and F22 that day)

My question is though what is it like trying to get out the campsite on saturday. I will need to turn right out and back upto lechlade.
Do the police make the whole road a 1 way system for arrival then leaving the show like around kempsford where you cannot leave till after 2pm when then change direction.
