Friday display?

Post by The Phantom » Wed May 27, 2015 12:36 pm

I see on the official site that display flying on the Friday is from 11-3, but i can't find any info on expected display aircraft (or is it too early to know yet).
Does anyone have any idea of what will be displaying - or can give advice on what was displayed at least years show on the Friday (numbers and types).
It's to try and decide whether it's worth attending or not....

Mark.

They have not yet released the details on the website, keep an eye on the participation lost and it will tell you what days all the aircraft are attending, the only two things confirmed for Friday at present are the Red Arrows and the Battle of Britain mass flypast.

I see on the site map that it looks as though part of the static is closed on Friday near the green zone end.
Was this done last year does anyone know or is it new this year and what is likekly to be parked that end?
Still hope a P-1 will fly Friday but at the moment RIAT say no,shame especially as they arrived today.

Hi,
We have been for the last two years on the Friday and if I'm honest, we were a little disappointed as yes the static is not fully open, may be different this year, we are giving it a miss altogether this year but may try flyaway day, hope you have a good time and the weather is kind..
Cheers

If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

Individual days display i.e. Friday: Saturday and Sunday Display..... is listed, and has been for some time under my Fairford listing.

It also list the participant in order of display from the information I was given.......see

viewtopic.php?f=335&t=116554

The said listing is listed after the "Special Flypast" listing

Hope this of help...

Too late for me now this year - but what part of the base is open on the Friday? Is it the same as the Wednesday and Thursday (the East park and view), or is there more access open as per the full days? How busy does it get?

Just some info on the Friday visit.Arrived into red car park around 0800 with no problems, quick security check and into static area. All areas open up as far as green car park area.
That end is also used for flying display aircraft this year so not certain how much further you could go Sat and Sun,obviously some more static area would be open past the parked Osprey which was blocked off.
Plenty of people there even for such a shorter flying display with some arrivals and stuff do there validation display before 1100 when flying proper started and after.
Plenty of room on display line for graphs even at the usually crowded lift off area and the landing end.
Weather was mixed to say the least and it looks like Sat and Sun will be better.
Left at 1500 while Reds where flying and no problems getting out, would have been difficult later I think as only one exit by the look of it.Went to Brize chasing the Indians after then had to endure Oxford traffic and the M25 car park coming home.

All areas will be open Sat/Sun, there was a delay getting in the Red end yesterday, I go there at 0720L expecting the the entrance to be open at 0730L [as advertised] but due to a computer glitch it was almost 0800L
According to South Today some 15000 paying people attended the show Friday

On Friday you could not get to the area past the Voyager,I realise that further static was in that area and just for next year info if the display aircraft are parked that end again how close can you get too them on Sat and Sun.
Does anyone know if the parking at the green end for the display aircraft going to be a regular thing?

The Photo Opportunities were very good for all of the fighters that were parked down near the green entrance.

Yesterday you could walk all along the front of them with little clutter behind them.

They were parked in two rows which made photographing the back ones difficult until they flew.

Saw them on Friday from campsite but didn't take much notice. On Saturday however, the trio consisted of :
ZA372 ''006' ; 45+88 ; MM 7072 '6-30' . MM 7025 '6-05' was the air spare on that day .
