Saturday's tour questions

Post by andygolfer » Sat Oct 10, 2015 4:51 pm

I'm planning to do north Weald tomorrow and wonder if anyone can give an indication of the degree of interest in the Saturday tour to assist my planning please.

Were the actual locations very busy i.e. were there traffic/parking issues please?

Were they just straight fly throughs at each location please?

MTIA for any responses

Over Gainsborough in about 10secs if that helps, only saw handful of observers.

I was on the opposite bank of the humber to Brough with maybe a dozen others. There appeared to be a large crowd at Brough from what we could see, vulcan was overhead 1309 and did a 270° turn before heading west and performing an orbit in the distance (Brieghton possibly). No traffic problems where we were.

Was stood on Waddingtom Fell north of Clitheroe, flew down the Ribble valley just before 1500. Very hazy though, photos not good.
Canon 5D Mk4 plus long lenses, and lots of hope!

RAF Menwith Hill was very busy but fortunately that had been predicted well. A road had been closed off so people could park up & view in safety...

Hundreds of folk at Newcastle, no control on roads but adequate space to park. Vulcan came from the West down runway and did a 270 turn before heading North.

I counted over one-hundred illegally parked cars, not counting motorbikes, on the Dunmail Raise clearway. (If it had been Lincs or Cambs they'd have all got tickets!!). XH came into view round Castleriggs and pointed to Thirlmere; I was precariously high on a perch and thought 'too high' just when the pilot dipped the nose 150ft. Beautiful- it was below me, and around 300/400ft above the summit of Dunmail. I'm still on 'wet film' so can't post pictures, at least until the film's out of the camera.
