Colombo (VCBI) 17/9/13

Post by slogen51 » Sun Oct 13, 2013 9:42 am

Hi
A recent trip to Singapore involved a one hour stop over at Colombo on board EK348 out of Dubai

The military ramp is on the other side of the single runway opposite the passenger terminal.

I saw one SLAF MIG-27 which I could just about read off - it definitely ended in 737 and according to my discreet photo looked like SF-9737.

Also I could easily see 3 stored Mi-24 sans rotors but they are parked nose on to the terminal.
** If anyone on here can help with the identification of the choppers I would be very grateful***.

Did not log a lot of mil at Singapore Changi - the Fokker 50 and KC-135s of the Singapore Air Force are of course regular sightings. The high light was Taiwan C-130H 1318 on 24/9/13 which was lucky as I had seen 4 others at Marrietta on a Touch down trip some years back. Aussie C-17 A41-206 was also noted on approach to Paya Leba but I had seen this one recently in Brize - gutted!

The MiG-27 will have been SFS737.
The helicopters are more difficult. The SLAF Engineering Wing uses the adjacent hangar for overhauls. In March 2012 Mi-24Ps SAH637 and SAH638 (damaged) were outside.

cool

Cheers for Mig correction - the last 3 digits are clear but the serial prefix looked a bit scratchy
(The Mig-27 looked active and was towed from the hangar and crewed up but was then towed back inside when it started to rain!)

I will scratch the Mi-24s but it was an interesting to see them.

Mike
