Pune,

The only Voyager that has been up that way is ZZ331 as "RRR334P" going into Birmingham for the Paderborn run.

Cheers,

Bob

For “RRR334P", the “P” generally refers to Positioning, in this case Brize to Birmingham civil.

From there, does Paderborn (mainly army, Germany) and back then to Birmingham, later this afternoon. Then back to Brize. This appears to be every Sunday.

Can anybody explain why this flight needs to pickup and drop-off at Birmingham and simply not direct Brize.

Mart, going back many moons, the British Army on the Rhine (BAOR) administrative flights (for family and general admin personnel movements) used to operate out of Luton (Brittania Airways charters and no doubt some others (Monarch)), then the flights moved to Stansted, some time in the 90s i think (British World Airways and possibly a few other airlines over the years).

It was decided in 2001 (if i recall correctly) that the flights would again move from Stansted to Birmingham as this was more central in the country and was easier for personnel to get to (as well as not having to travel via London). There has over the years been a mixture of both full and part charters (seats on BA flights) that have served the Germany routes.

The Voyager use on the route started about 2 years ago, it started of as a formal Air Tanker charter flight but nowadays its generally run as a military trooping flight. So the answer to your question is simply convenience for families and personnel to get to an airport by train or drop off in a central country location.
