Re: Easter week movements?...
Hi Dave,
normally RAF bases start operating the tuesday afternoon after a bank holiday, although some do have extended down time which would be advised via NOTAM, although nothing have been published yet.

Re: Easter week movements?...
I presume the tragic events of yesterday will have an impact on flying ops just after Easter period and next week just before the break.

Re: Easter week movements?...
If AAIB will have finished on the scene, flying ops should resume on Monday. However the base will be closing Wednesday/ Thursday for the Easter break. I hope to have more info regarding the Easter break dates by this evening.
If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...
Re: Easter week movements?...
Apart from the ongoing accident investigation wont the main rwy require repair/resurfacing?Red Dragon wrote:If AAIB will have finished on the scene, flying ops should resume on Monday. I suppose the cross rwy could be used if wind strength/direction allows.
Then there is a "flying pause" awaiting preliminary technical findings from the investigation even though a Hawk T1/A not a T2 was involved (different engine etc but flying control rods etc same as T1). I notice 100 Sqn have suspended flying ops.

Re: Easter week movements?...
The NOTAM is just to cover the investigation on the base.
As for damage to the runway surface, I don't think much/ if any has been done. As on Monday 26th Flying operations are due to re-start so there is a good chance you might see the 4-5 x T2's having to be prepared for the transit flight from RAF Mona to RAF Valley and there is still the matter of Red 1 still parked up at Mona. If the grounding order for the T1's is still in place then it might remain in Mona for a while.
As for easter closure I think it will either be end of flying operations on Wednesday 28th or lunchtime Thursday 29th.

Re: Easter week movements?...
I called in about 2.30pm for half an hour this afternoon, no sign of any activity though runway caravan was out so assume it was open. The five T.2s were still on the deck at Mona when I went past on the way to Valley.

Re: Easter week movements?...
Hawk T2's ZK012, ZK014, ZK021, ZK029, ZK030 All returned safely to RAF Valley at around 16:00. However Hawk T1 "Red 1" XX??? is still resident at RAF Mona.
Currently the RAF are still investigating all aspects of that particular T1's service, also the 13/ 31 runway is being tested to make sure it is fit for use. I doubt we will see any Hawk T1 or T2 operations before Tuesday 3rd April.

Re: Easter week movements?...
It seems that due to the wind favouring runway 01/ 19 operations today, so they have decided to commence operations it seems.

All I can say is obviously they know more about the situation than I do.

Re: Easter week movements?...
Just heard "Cranwell 17" routing across the Lichfield, RTB Scampton - assume this was Red 1 from Mona?
Re: Easter week movements?...
Business as usual for based T2s using main rwy yesterday afternoon and also on rwy 13 today (Thurs 29/3).
According to the Holyhead & Anglesey Mail regarding the wreckage of XX204:
"Heavy lifting gear was brought onto the runway on Friday [23/3] and the fuselage and wings [Note: Hawk has one single wing bolted to fuselage from below -MG]
were lifted onto a truck and taken away...gusts of 50mph had hampered the recovery operation on Thurs, and despite the strong winds continuing [Fri 23/3] the large crane drove onto the airfield shortly after 7am...operation was completed by late morning when the weather conditions had abated".
Thankfully the RAFAT pilot, Flt Lt David Stark, has now left the Queen Elizabeth military clinic in Birmingham.
T1A XX280 seen dep 1458L presume RTB Culdrose.
