Flares from the caravan

Post by LiamCarbin » Wed Jul 06, 2016 11:44 am

Anyone know the reasoning, why the guy from the caravan, besides the runway was shooting flares. I presume it was to gauge the wind? These weren't the usual bird scaring flares.

Often they will fire off flares from the caravan that are near their expiry date.

What colour were the flares, was the guy firing them from inside the caravan or was he standing outside, was there a/c in the circuit at the time???

White/yellowish colour. No planes in the circuit. From the outside of the red and white cheques caravan. A blue one went off the other day as a Hawk T2 landed but I heard on my radio that was to simulate something

Sounds like they were just firing off near expiry date flares like vuclanxl425 said above.
