Ahh, one of those! I'm sure I've seen something on them before. I'll have a look around!

But according to Mach III and Scramble a B707 / C-137! Don't think anyone really knows what it is. Last noted in April 1999 in Texas.

I thought that C-18A is conversion from Boeing 707-320B or -320C series. C-137 said to be from an earlier B707 series. However, I guess all three possibilities contain a grain of truth!

Hi Watson, perhaps I can help.

I myself saw 31044 at one of Eglin AFB ramps during a self guided tour on November 9th 1997.

Ian Carroll told me the c/n is 18835 (line nr 408). The Boeing 707-321B appears as N2138T (though not officially registered) in the early 1990s then disappears to re-appear as the much modified USAF/MIT Lincoln Labs N404PA in 2001.
The cheat line on 31044 and N2138T is remarkably similar.

All the 31044 sightings are in the 1993 to 1998 period.

Hope this helps,

Peter

If so, started life as N404PA in 1965, a Pan Am 320B, went into AFMC supporting research activities, was designated a C-18 at some point and given the usaf serial 93-1044. It is still flying with MIT reverting back to its first civil reg but in heavily modified form https://www.jetphotos.com/census/aircra ... =707-18835
