Hi Dave
I was there too.
Checking my logs I don't have a note of what was where however I did note a single Draken at Scampton that day - AT-151 RDAF. That was possibly your overfly.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Best Regards

I had a ferret through ‘BAR’ issues for the time; the following might be of interest:

Atlantic
Can’t find any note of an Atlantic being seen at another UK airfield on 8/8, so I wonder if this was an overflight by 61+16 of MFG3 while on its way home from the St Mawgan airshow (6/8) where it was one of the aircraft in the Static line-up.

F-16
Possibly F-16A FA23 of 1 Wing/FAB, which was hangared from 4/8 until its departure on 8/8.

Draken
Sk.35XD AT-151 arrived Scampton 8/8 – one of several arrivals that day in connection with the end of the Meet, which would tie in with an overflight of Waddo on the way in to Scampton. Note however, there were another five RDAF Drakens at Scampton at the time, for ‘Mallet Blow 86/3’ (A. 35XD A-018 and S.35XDs AR-104/106/115/118), all of which left for home before lunch on 8/8.

Chinook
Can’t find anything on this one.

Sherpa
No Sherpas noted in the Waddo movements for 1–9/8. The closest I can offer on this is the five aircraft recorded at MHL on 8/8: 30512, 40463, 40464, 40467 (also at St Mawgan that day) and 40468.

Cheers,
M

Hi Dave

Had a look through the logs. Can confirm that FA-23 did indeed join the flight line out of the hangars. I have nothing on the others but wonder (I doubt it though) if what you thought was the twin boom of a Sherpa was actually the tail of Optica G-BYLZ. Very doubtful but it’s the only twin-boom (sort of) on the base that I can think of at that time.

Cheers
Simon

hi,
thanks Simon, to be honest I don't remember it one way or the other, I just saw the note in my book. I had seen plenty of Sherpa's at different US bases but I just can't remember...
thanks again for thinking about it for me.

Hi Dave,

The Sherpa was a civi machine, G-BKMW, it was the demo one from Shorts in USAFE camo if I remember correctly. Other support aircraft I noted on that day were;

Gazelle, XW852/855/XZ935
Andover, XS791
Pembroke, XL929
Hansa Jet, 16+02
Falcon, N907FR?

Hope that helps
