Any chance anyone recorded C-97, ROCKY 30 that arrived GC on the evening of 6/09/1971?

Not seen any reports of this Colin, seems like it slipped through the net. At FL230 it would be a KC-97L.
Alternatively, could this be an MC-130E? 8 SOS 40566 arrived on the 6th to be temporarily based but I don't know what the c/s or arrival time was.
cheers,
Graham

Hi Colin

looking at SEAR (South East Air Review) for October 1971 there is no mention of any C-97 in Greenham,
lots of other movements, C-121,C-124C,C-130,C-141 and so on , am sure if it had landed it would have been reported
and no sign of it at any other USAF airfields

My log for Greenham on Sep 6th shows 3 W.Va ANG C-119Gs, but that was probably daytime not evening...

53-7884
53-8087
53-8149

Maybe another arrived?

It looks like they went on to Ramstein https://www.planepictures.net/v3/show_en.php?id=792200

Unfortunately they were the only ones.

Thanks everyone, starting to look like it was the MC-130 that arrived and not a C-97!
Appreciate all the input.

Colin

Have you, by any chance, got a date for their departure from Greenham, Graham??

I've got a master record of having seen those three (the only US C-119s that I have seen), but my logs prior to 1978 have long gone - probably lost in a house move.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

Don't have that Bob but I vaguely remember they were only there for a couple of weeks which would put their departure around mid September.

So, quite likely the date of the picture of 53-7884 arriving at Ramstein - 17/09/1971.

Many thanks, Graham.
