Hi,

I was at RAF Bircham Newton 1960-61 and we regularly had Sculthorpe's KB-29Ps & KB-50Js flying over. I went to the 1960 open day at Sculthorpe where I logged loads of B-66s and other types but I can't say what was based there from my log other than the refuellers. If any of this is a help let me know and I will post the details from my log.

Regards

Doubt if they were KB-29P's Vulcan as they stopped flying from Sculthorpe in '58 and were scrapped there in '58/59. Be interested to see you're log!

The 47BW had the following transport/communications a/c assigned in April'61
C-47A 43-15199 and 43-48083
T-29A 49-1941
T-33A 50-0337, 51-6645, 51-6651, 51-6952, 51-6953, 51-6956 and 53-5830

HTH,
cheers,
Graham

Graham,

I bow to your superior knowledge on my sighting KB-29Ps, my memory probably needs updating; I was a young RAF erk square-bashing at the time but there were definitely KB-50Js, at the height they were flying there was no mistaking them and their noise. As for keeping a log, there was no chance what with marching up and down the parade square to get other than a sly look at them. I did manage to go to the 1960 USAF Sculthorpe open day which included B-66 Destroyers as well as a F-106 Delta Dart and F-102 Delta Dagger among others including the KB-50Js. Those were the days and you don't get anything so interesting now. Anyway enough of reminiscing of days gone by, onward and upwards.

Never enough of reminiscing ! Used to love 'Scully' . You can combine reminiscing with interesting ops there today when SOG from Mildenhall are there with CV22's and MC130J's doing air drops , NVG landings etc . as they are most weeks , always NOTAM'ed . 372.275 used.
