Vigilante at IAT?

Post by LecLightning56 » Thu Apr 20, 2017 9:48 pm

In the business of sorting out some loose ends in my memory about aircraft observed in yesteryear, but does anybody recall seeing a US Navy Vigilante at the IAT events in the '70s and '80s? If so, please identify the year and the aircraft concerned.

EA-3B also at IAT Greenham Common in 1977, but definitely no RA-5C's.

Same one (144852/18 "Ranger18", VQ-2) at IAT'76 as well. Bit of thread creep - at least one Vigilante visited Mildenhall.

I've attended every IAT since 1977 and no Vigilante has visited in that time.

I saw some B/W photos on the web a while back - I think an A5 did attend a show in either Belgium or Holland in the 70's - Got a feeling is was either KB or Soesterburg. Did you ever venture abroad in the 70's?

Edit : Found it - Liege/Bierset in 1969 http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-Navy ... te/2246441

Please let me know when the A-5 was at Mildenhall and if possible the aircraft concerned. It could be I got IAT mixed up with the Air Fete.

Only vaguely remember being told about it in the 1960's but none ever appeared at any of the Mildenhall shows back then. No more info unfortunately.

I think a B-58 Hustler appeared at an air show at Mildenhall in the 1960's but never an Air Fete. Could you be mixing the 2 up?

Funny how memories sometimes play tricks with you, but I think that I shall finally capitulate to the fact that no such aircraft had visited any UK airshows in the late 1970s/early 1980s. Well, if there had not been one on display then there should certainly have been on account of its elegant design, let alone delighting enthusiasts.
