Nellis nov 1989 B1B Test

Post by AK01 » Sat Jul 22, 2017 2:42 pm

Long shot,
At the 2nd of November 1989 i noted an unidentified B1B at Nellis. On the tail it had the letter P inside a triangle. No other tailcode.
On the same day i also noticed F111D 68-0175 wearing the same badge, a P in a Triangle. This one belonged to the Mcclellan test squadron which i believe was 2874Test Squadron at that time, later becoming 337TS.
Has anyone a clue how many B1's have been flying with those markings, or has anyone more info on this B1?

Hi Pieter,
just wondering if the B-1B was assigned to the 384thBW at Mc Connell? During WW2 the 384thBG's tail marking was a P inside a triangle. May have got dispensation to temporarily wear this historic marking for an exercise/competition.

Can't explain the marking on the F-111D other than it being "zapped" by the 384th!

cheers,
Graham

Hi Graham,
Thanks for pointing me out to the 384th. With this help i have found at least one picture of a B1B with the P on the tail : https://abpic.co.uk/pictures/view/1112044
So i guess there where more flying around during 1989. As for the F111D, indeed strange, might be a mistake from my site, have to check the images to see if i made a slide of it.
Best Regards Pieter,
