Hi from the Scottish Borders

Post by Talla » Mon Oct 30, 2017 8:14 pm

Hi All

based in Scottish Borders I am underneath some busy flight routes, with a decent amount of military aircraft both low level and high level....Spadeadam is about 25 miles from me so I get any action going.

USAF C17, K35R and C5 seem to have a well worn path heading north over my location on a daily basis.

I track 24/7 using my pi3 and piaware with acceptable coverage 200+ miles all round apart from the north because of hills so coverage is down to 100 miles. I was watching 2 F15s earlier this evening over the North Sea but so far have not managed to find their frequency...also cant seem to catch the frequencies for cobham flights that seem to be in the same area over the north sea.

I can listen to civil aircraft down to Birmingham working into Daventry sector on VHF so thats about 200 miles....what can I expect with UHF for military are the training missions over the north sea asking to much ?

Cheers Mark

Welcome, Talla, a very appropriate 'handle'. Perhaps I should have made mine 'Shapp' as I'm around twelve miles south of that report-point.
I don't have computers at home so it's frustrating when I pick up "Dragons" on my old MV5000 and can't 'heads-up' for members in the Cotswolds; usually catch them on 282.125 or 277.625.

Cheers Roger....the plus side to no pc at home less noise or interference on the radio, i would be lost without them to run my SDRs ...Mark
